Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I haven't been playing for a while (between 6 months and 1 year, I guess).

I have a cloud ironman save I'd like to play.

When I try to load it, I get a disclaimer saying that it is an old save. When I proceed anyway, the game crashes.

What should I do to restore it?

PS: in the original save Conclave and Sword of Islam were disabled, but even if I disable it manually before loading, it crashes anyway.

I managed to run the game downgrading to version 2.8.3.4.

Can (or should) the savegame be upgraded somehow to the latest version, or I shall keep playing the old one?

Stay on that version until you are done with that campaign. 2.8.x and 3.x are not save game compatible.
