CK2 [3.3.2] Succession went to Primogeniture heir instead of Meritocratic heir I selected

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Reformed Slavic with Meritocracy so I selected my heir, however when I battled the old god and selected the option where I died (because I had a good heir,) instead my dead first born son's first born son became emperor of Rus.
Probably irrelevant complication: Preferred heir was old slavic
Steps to reproduce the issue.
Reform Slavic and select Meritocracy.
Have primogeniture succession.
Select non-first born son as heir.
Follow the quest chain that starts with "Somewhere a dreamer stirs..." and ends with "He Comes HE COMES!" and die.

UPDATE: I no longer think this is a bug. The fact my chosen heir was not reformed slavic disqualified him for the throne (since I am the head of the faith.) Later in the same game I had a legitimized bastard I could not designate heir because he was the wrong faith.
