Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
The game seems to respond for a small while, but it's not long before all I can move is the mouse pointer.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
Load the game, wait for time to pass - it can take a month of game time (on the slowest)

You are on quite an old version of the game. Can I ask why? And does this problem only affect that older version?

You've attached a save game - is that because it just affects that save? Or is it a general problem?

I think it just affects this save. I'm still on the old version, as I wanted to finish it and eventually convert it for EU4 play. I thought the game lag might pass, but it only got worse, so I was only playing on weekends, and thus the last 100 years game play have been slow going (I did take a break for Xmas).

If that game has a single large empire - say 1/4 of the map or more - then this is a known limitation of this game, it just cannot handle the number of units that appear when a civil war or major rebellion breaks out.

If that's not the case though, let me know!

I'd have to admit, that is definitely the case (almost the whole world). But I also noted that the integer value for my in-game score rolled over into super negative values.

Yup. You are essentially playing out of the design scope of the game.
