Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I accepted a mission to go on a pilgrimage, took the decision to go on a pilgrimage and after a couple of events nothing has happened for a long time. I'm playing an ironman game so I cant console fiddle to resolve it.

Steps to reproduce the issue.
Go on a pilgrimage a few times?

I also am having this issue. I too have a character who will not return from pilgrimage. Save file attached.
