Will this issue be added to the Currently Known Issues Thread? It's certainly not 'game breaking' but... to be honest it causes visual pain to me and affects immersion. I hope it'll be fixed asap.

EDIT: I attached screenshots of Haralrd Tanglehair before and after the update. He looked normal before, not anymore‍.

I noticed the same thing, characters look super strange. I would almost consider this game breaking. I was excited to try out Royal Court expansion, but now I don't want to start new game in case that the hopefully upcoming fix won't work on existing saves.
What annoys me the most is that this is such a easy bug to spot. Like, you can't avoid seeing those faces. I understand that bugs happen but bugs like this shouldn't get past the development.

I am seeing the same issue. The characters I have custom dna for look very different (some almost unrecognizable). The eyes and grainy texture are what stand out the most. I don't see how something like this would get missed in qa.

Well actually I don't want to start a new game just like you, so yes, you changed my mind. This is actually game breaking.
And the fact that this has been approved for release makes me think if Paradox was just lazy or what? Like you said, you can't avoid seeing those faces. This bug is not hidden in game code but in plain sight.

im having the same problem. i dont have any mods or nothing. And the portraits look like that all the time not just when picking a character. It even seems like the custom characters have issues aswell.

there's something about it that causes a lot of eye strain. gave me a headache after about 20 min of playing. it's not just the characters either. everything seems kinda off. had to stop playing and revert to an old version. custom character looked fine when creating but once in the game looked quite a bit different

It might be in relation to this specific part of the 1.5 patch notes:
- Character portraits now have FXAA applied when any anti-aliasing is enabled in settings

It might be a broken FXAA implementation that is causing graininess and maybe somehow bleeds off into the rest of the game screen.

Just got a discord notice that EPE (ethnicities and portraits expanded) mod is updated and ready for 1.5. Gonna see if that helps.

Is this a texture bug or a DNA string bug? If the DNA strings are bad, those are in the save files and probably won't be fixed in a hotpatch. I'm wondering if I should play or just wait.

It is not just the eyes. If you switch between versions you will see that all the graphics are... harsher but it is especially noticeable in character portraits and in character portraits... yes... the eyes.
