I played CK with 1.05 with small problems, but it was OK. Then, I took a brake of couple of weeks. After that, game stops responding approximately 15 seconds after intro, no matter what I do. I uninstalled the game, checked the system with my updated KAV Personal Pro 5.0.376, installed it again and installed patch, but all that in vain. It's all same story. I purchased the game through Paradox on Demand. It's not that game blocks entire system, I can see Windows mouse pointer when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, but I can't do anything because of full screen mode (Alt+Tab doesn't work). Game simply stops receiving commands. Mouse is freezed, and shortcuts aren't responding, too. Later, after I've got some advices from Byakhiam, I renamed AVI folder to Backup_AVI, only to get freezed sooner. Then I turned off everything except clock, and I managed to start a game, but soon (january 1067) it freezes again. I was able to Alt+Tab to Windows Task Manager and it says that application is not responding, and that CPU is over 95% dedicated to CK.

Obviously something changed on your system in those few weeks. Any idea what that might be?

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Ok, here are the results:

Okay two things:
1) lets update your video driver just to eliminate that. (not that I think it is the cause but it does not hurt in anycase.)

2) What concerns me more is your lack of HD space.
I do not know where you are running your virtual memory from but you have less than a gig of HD space available on C-drive. I do not know why you divided up your drive like you did but this is the kind of problem you run into when you do. Especially such a small drive and a small primary partition.

Just how much space should I free on my primary partition to run this program properly? Because now I have over 2GB free, and it's all the same.

What are your vitual memory settings?

Total paging file size for all drives (actually, only C while D and E are set to "No paging file") is 768 MB. When I click on "Change" button, it says that recommended value is 766 MB, and maximum size is 1536 MB. Available space on C is 2772 MB.

Try setting it to E: 2048

I did try that and several other combination, but nothing happens. Look, is it possible to install game, once purchased over Paradox On Demand, on another computer? I have pretty good lap-top (IBM ThinkPad T42p), and I think that game is going to work just fine there.

Sure you can do that.

Happy conquests.
