Hey
i have the problem that i can not start my game that i have installed over steam.
when i try to start it there come an whithe screen where i usually can select the dlcs or mods but now it is just white and than disapears without any error singn.
with the same steam account on my laptop there is no problem in starting the game.
i allready deinstalled and reinstalled the game and also steam.

Has the game ever run OK on this computer? Or never?

IF NEVER:
Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=8328
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=13523
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
(run dxsetup.exe after extracting from this download)

Add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Also if you have installed RivaTuner, RadeonPro, or a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, or Duet, disable it as it clashes with this game.

IF IT USED TO WORK:
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

Also if you have installed RivaTuner, RadeonPro, or a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, or Duet, disable it as it clashes with this game.

IF NEITHER OF THOSE HELP:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

it worked perfectly
i allready made3 an clean re-install the only thing i do not know how to do or chek is this point:
add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

It depends on what antivirus app you use. If one has been installed (eg Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, ESET, BitDefender, Malwarebytes, Nortons etc etc etc) then you'll have to add ck2game.exe to its exceptions list manually.

If no AV app like that has been installed, Windows Defender will be active instead. In the Windows search box type ransomware. Enable Controlled Folder Access if disabled, then add ck2game.exe to the Apps Allowed Through list there.

Hello:

I have a similar issue:

Via the Steam client it just won't start.

XINPUT1_3.dll and d3dx9_41.dll are missing according to the error message I get when I try to start the game by going to the .exe in the directory.

Now, I can hear you say I need to install DirectX.

I have executed numerous reinstalls of DirectX, CK2 and Steam. When I check the DirectX folders in C:, all dlls are there, including the two above deemed to be missing.

Can it be related to it being a new install on a new laptop?

How exactly do I proceed?

Thanks!

When you run dxsetup.exe to install DX9 again, do you get any error showing?

Thanks for answering!

Fortunately, I managed to resolve the error by copying the .dll files directly into the CKII folder.

To answer your question, the dxsetup.exe showed an error message saying the .dlls were already installed.

Thank you for your answer!

I'm having the exact same problem as the original poster, and I have played the game successfully for a long time. I did find an error log. I have attached the save game affected. Removing the save game allows the game to restart.

The error file mentioned that the save game did not have the valid file magix?

That doesn't sound like the OP's problem at all, actually. His was missing Windows DLLs, from what you say yours is a bad or corrupted save game file.

Can you go back to a previous save of that campaign?

I'm having the same problems, have done everything listed in this post (game used to work up until a few months ago) but the game is still not launching. I have the dxdiag.text, but no system.log because since the clean reinstall the game won't create a Documents folder.

What antivirus app do you use? - add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

If you exit Steam entirely and run ck2game.exe by itself do you see any error then?

Windows anti-virus. Have listed the ck2game.exe on the excepted list in the ransomware. the error I see when trying to start up directly without loading Steam is "0xc000007b"

That usually means missing Microsoft modules. See the installers I linked up in post #2. Let us know what happens with each one, any error or problem.

Tried them already no joy.

PS I reverted the game back to 3.2.1, and it's working fine.

Maybe it's an issue with Windows' inability to upgrade my computer to Windows 10 1903 build.

I could see that, yes. I fear you may have a Windows reset or reinstall in your near future, I'm afraid!
