"This is a day that will forever live in infamy..."

Sometimes, you may never know how lucky you are, sometimes, all it takes is one man to make a world of difference. And sometimes, that man is simply an aide who brings coffee to and from the war-room. Sometimes, that man knows nothing of war or politics, all he does have is some common sense.

Men move to and fro in front of a map of the world, Hitler has just decided that Germany's next move will be a declaration of war upon the United States of America. No one notices one of Hitler's aides who is bringing in refills for coffee.

"Mein Führer, this is an excellent plan", said Joseph Goebbels, as he lied through his teeth to Adolf. A declaration of war on America? This late in the war? With a front in Russia and a naval clash with Britain? Insanity. However, as Goebbels rationals, the Fuhrer knows best. Or so he hopped.

"Indeed, of course, there are some worries from me, America is vast and full of resources such as the Soviets, but these are just my ramblings" Heinrich Himmler shot Goebbels are nervous look that said it all. 'Where in Hell are we going to find the resources to deal with the Americans?!'

The most of the men in the room agreed that the best course of action was indeed to declare war on America, now using the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent declaration of war against the Japanese Empire as an excuse. Of course, that was publicly, privately, most knew that American inclusion into the war would be dangerous, as even more supplies would flood to the British and soon, even men. But nobody would contradict Adolf Hitler, Führer and Reichskanzler of Germany. The room was filled with many distinguished men of service and honor, yet all were spineless "yes-men" whom would sell they're mothers at the slightest suggestion by Hitler. Fortunately for Germany and its people, someone would use common sense, something ironically very, very rare.

"Mein Führer, perhaps it is better if we don't..." the man in the back of the room spoke with a timid voice, he was in a room full of great men, why would hey listen to him?

"Ah, Conrad, its a little out of place for you to speak here..."

"I know, I know, Herr Himmler, but I believe all of us here wish the best for Germany, don't we?" Conrad's hands began sweating, he rarely spoke, he had no wife and was 26. He was a shy man, and had no idea as to why he had chosen now to speak in front of and audience of a dozen high Party officials.

Hitler spoke from the front of the room "Allow the man to speak, he is correct, I am an open man" while this may seem like a lie and rather ironic to most, it filled Conrad's heart with joy and confidence.

"Herr Hitler, do you agree with the notion that America is a very strong nation, with a vast amount of resources?"

"Of course, Conrad, its a well known fact" Hitler laughed, so did the rest of the room, Conrad let out a soft, feined chuckle

"What I mean to say is that, why attack now, we simply don't have the resources to fit the bill. I mean look at where we are at this moment, at war with the English and the Russians! The Bear and the Lion, and while we are winning now, we could see a reverse of that soon if we are not careful."

Hitler began his refute, with his smile gone and a much more stern expression, "We must deal with the Americans now, Germany has not failed me and will not fail me now..."

Conrad interrupted Herr Hitler, this was enough to have to whole room whispering, people were shocked, who would dare do such a thing, especially an aide! "Mein Führer, we should consolidate our victories and grip over Europe now, while we still have a chance, allow me to show you!" Conrad went over to the map on the wall behind him, and promptly picked up a pen and began to scribble on the very expensive world map. Now this really got to the senior party officials.

"Conrad, please, leave, this is not your place" Began an army officer before having himself silenced by Hitler by a hand wave, with just a hand wave, everyone in the room grew silent.

"Allow the man to show us what he wishes to show us, it must be important." Hitler, taking this very much like a joke smirked, what could this aide show him that he had not already seen, what could he tell him what he did not already know?

"Thank you" Conrad began to scribble on the board,

"This is America!" Conrad drew a large blue circle on the board, it encompassed the United States indeed. The "audience" began to laugh, yells of "Congratulations, Conrad" came from the back of the room.

"And this is Britain!" Conrad filled in the British Isles in pink, stopping at Ireland. "And these are her colonies!" Conrad filled in the British colonies. The crowd became silent.

Conrad knew he had their attention. This was grand, a man whom had just moments ago fill the men's cups with coffee was now giving them a much needed geography lesson!

And as a finishing touch, Conrad filled in Germany and her conquests, from France, to the border with the Soviets, "There." He smiled before continuing, "We are in the middle of the Eagle, the Lion and the Bear. We are already at war with a great portion of the world, and we would only bring in another great chunk! Please, gentlemen appeal to reason! I realize common sense may not be common, but please, your leaders of the strongest nation on the planet!"

You could hear a pin drop. The room was silent, many, including Conrad, were astonished. Did an errand boy just insult Adolf Hitler? Adolf stood there, staring at the map and the short, shy Bavarian man in front of him.

"Herr Conrad, please, leave us, for we have much to discuss..."

----------------------------------------------

"We tried to go on to the end. We tried to fight on the beaches. We tried to fight on the landing grounds. We tried to fight the Germans where we could meet them... but somehow, we failed, I have failed you, Britain, and I have failed Europe, as a long night of darkness befalls them. At precisely, 12:26 P.M, local time, after nearly seven years of a long, brutal blockade, our diplomats signed the Treaty of Madrid, officially ending this Great War. As ask that we only brace ourselves for the trials to come. While Britain proper may be safe, an entire continent is befallen by an 'Iron Curtain' from Portugal in the West, to the Urals in the East, a continent which will soon turn against us once again. The only hope for the free world is if Russia can turn back the Nazi onslaught that moves ever closer to Siberia, we have confidence in them and their leader General Secretary Molotov, and our hearts go out to them in their time of greatest need! Britain, now is the time to rebuild..."

- British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, announcing the end of hostilities with Germany and the Axis Powers, 1946

Ahhhh, another one! :p

I know.. another one. I've recently come off of break and thought to start the new year with a new AAR! I won't promise anything, just know that I have almost 95% of the modding done and have a goal to at least get over five updates uploaded!

I wonder how Italy and the Balkans ended up the way they did. Presumably the Allies came out ahead in the Pacific, but what of China and Siberia? Definitely looking forward to seeing how the Cold War played out.

"Or so he hopped." should be "Or so he hoped." :p

Good besides that, though there is a little too much tourqoise in Europe for my taste. Needs some American Blue.

Well, I hardly think that it would have been impossible for the allies to win, even if the United States stayed neutral in Europe, and even more, I don't see Churchill ever signing peace with Germany.

But well, your alternate universe, your story.

I'll sure follow.

I really wonder what happend to Europe and the world, since from the map it seems that the Germans didn't win a crushing victory over the Soviets and the Allies. Plus there are some things quite strange like Moldavia and Transnistra, indipendent Macedonia and Albania, Ukranian Sub-carpatian Ruthenia...

Aye, and Mesopotamia and the Levant looks...wierd. If Germany curbstomped the allies sans USA, why isn't there a greater german presence in those areas?

So... basically it's Germany and a load of satellites/allies/whatever they are all the way to Russia's border? Looks like it - Germany is bright and so are many other countries, leading me to think that the screenshot has been taken with Germany and so these countries are in the Nazi sphere of influence. I do wonder, however, why Gibraltar has not been seized by Germany or Spain as part of the peace resolution - after all, France was kept under the German umbrella, it's not like it was a status quo peace. I'd have taken that from the British. Your call though.

Italy had taken its piece of the Balkans, but.. they decided to misbehave in the 50s. You'll find out :)

Ah, thanks! I always need some good spell checks. And the color, I agree, but I just couldn't find something all too agreeable.

You and me both, but the Cold War has always been a fascination for me, and an alternate one even more so.

Churchill had his hand forced, without the help of the US and its preoccupation with the Japanese, they had even less supplies. Lend-Lease? Much less than in our OTL.

Nope, no crushing victories, as I said above, I honestly never believed that Germany could win a crushing war against the Soviets and the British. Churchill was a bit dramatic in his last speech. There's no Nazi horde headed East, just what's left of the Wehrmacht going against a nation who's sole purpose now is to kill as many Germans as they can. They negotiate a somewhat fairish peace. And about Eastern Europe, Transnitria and Moldavia were my screw-up, I planned on simply loading up as Romania and "acceptall" in and demand territory. Same thing with Gibralter.

Aye, and Mesopotamia and the Levant looks...wierd. If Germany curbstomped the allies sans USA, why isn't there a greater german presence in those areas?

Colonization is dead, the areas are nominal puppet states gained from the French and British.

Guess he has to explain a lot of backstory then :p

Indeed :D

It's amazing that Britain got to keep Gibraltar, too.

Nope, that's my bad.

Germany has loosened its leash on the countries, now they're independent allies in the European alliance, except for the Eastern nations, they're kept under tight control because they are quite rebellious and the first line against the Russians.

Thanks for the comments guys, even if most were map suggestions/critiques, constructive criticism is always appreciated. Expect an update later today.

Interesting concept! I'll be following. Eagerly waiting for more info.

I'm a bit surprised Switzerland is still there. How did they manage to maintain their independence? Surely a victorious Germany would have no problems invading it when they basically control all of Europe.

It would have been silly to derivate resources to that area when you're hardly keeping your own territory.

Exactly. Also, attacking the world's neutral bank seems like a really bad idea, well that and I really wanted to get away from the "Germany is an evil empire that shall consume all of Europe!!!11!" kind of mess that tends to stem from this.

I'm gonna guess that some war is going to start with Serbia wanting back Kosovo. Or something along the likes.

War already happened in the Balkans, I'll fill you guys in later.

Anywhoosle, I've got some bad news. My game corrupted. This is why newbs modding things are bad. I think I tackled on too much at one time and now I don't know what I screwed up. Fortunately, I assume I'll have all back to order in a bit since I can just copy the province changes to an from folders. I'll hold back on my update off a bit. Sorry :eek:o

Interesting start, more MDS AARs are always welcome and I'm looking forward to seeing you develop this world further. It is a little convenient that so many borders have ended up exactly as they did IRL but I'm sure the backstory will explain that so I'll reserve judgement for now.

I finally got my modifications done! I'll have an update by Tuesday, sorry for the wait...

Waiting For the End

Somewhere in the Ural Mountains, Russia: January 23rd, 1951

Private Strokhov stood in line covered in snow. He wasn't sure what company he was in, he wasn't sure of much any more. Hell, he didn't even know what country he was fighting for, there was so much news of secession from the Union that maybe there wasn't much a country left to fight for. Maybe, instead of what once read as the "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" was simply just a blank on the globe. Maybe everything he had fought for since the Germans showed up in his village was for nothing! Maybe...

Strokhov's thinking was quickly interrupted by Lt. Banin

"Hey!" the Lieutenant slapped him on the shoulder, "Comrade! Quit your slacking! We have Germans coming!" Strokhov grew tense. Had they found them already! They had just finally settled there in the cave. Sure it wasn't the most comfortable abode, but better then moving again.

The cold pierced through the air and into the hearts of all five men standing in the cave. All were ready to die for the "motherland", but all held an inescapable fear at the bottom of their hearts. They waited for the Germans to arrive, most were armed with some of the most advanced weapons the German Heer could afford. As if they needed them...

One of the Germans enter the cave, he stops and looks around cautiously. He looks up, down, left and right and spots no one. If the Germans didn't have the tendency to send their recruits as cannon fodder in first, then they would have had a much better job at spotting the Russians waiting in the crevices and cracks, their outdated guns in hand.

"All clear! Move in!" said the recruit with a shaky voice full of nerves and anxiety. He could almost feel the tension in the cave.

"You best pray to God that your right, Schmidt, that certainly did not seem like a full check."

"How can any Russians hide in here? Where could they be!" the recruit made a sudden movement at a noise, but it was just in his head.

"Calm yourself! If there are any Russians here than you can best be sure they've heard you already. Move through the cave, men. The objective should be on the far side of this cave, and we'll report our findings back." They were a recon group, looking for the science base.

The Lieutenant gave a look to all the men in the cave, they were all within his sight. Strokhov was next to him, Baranovsky hiding behind the rocks placed in plain sight of the western side of the cave, Vazov and Gagolin laid on the floor only a few steps from the German squad, camouflaged. Lt. Banin whispered to Stukov,

"We're outnumbered, but we have the element of surprise on our side. You take the first shot, and I'll follow."

Strokhov had never taken the first shot, hell, he wasn't really ever sure he had killed anyone, he was only 17, taken from his farm and told to point and shoot his rifle at anything that looked hostile. The tension in him rose, it was time.

Strokhov rose his rifle, he was about to let out a cry, for "mother Russia!", but somehow, he felt it was unnecessary, there was no "Mother Russia" no "USSR", only snow...

Strokhov's rifle explodes in a bang, the German recruit falls to the ground, yelling out to the air, gripping his chest.

"We have hostiles! INCOMING!" the leader of the squad screamed, it was too late for him though, as Sgt. Gagolin laid a bullet in between his eyes.

The remaining men fell back to the entrance, shooting at dark spots that might be the enemy. However far they went, the Russians could not let them leave the cave alive, if they managed to get a signal out... it could end everything.

"Die Bolsheviks, die!' Yelled a German soldier frantically, as he emptied his clip at one of the walls as he ran. The poor fool managed to fall and be shot by Banin

Only three remained, but even that seemed to be shattered as one threw his rifle on the floor and scream for mercy. He received none.

"Keep shooting, we can't allow them get to the entrance!" Yelled Vazov, as the squad sprinted after the Germans. No matter how fast they ran, the remaining two Germans always kept up the advantage in distance.

Baranovsky took a shot. It almost hit the German on the left, it just narrowly missed his head before ricocheting on the wall. "Can't you shoot straight, Baranovsky?!" screamed Lt. Banin, "Damn it, Banin, its not as easy as it looks running."

Finally, at the entrance, the Germans managed to make it, or so it seemed. The one in front raised the flare gun, ready to send off the signal.

"One thing I never understood, comrades! Why couldn't we simply just kill them silently with knives?!" Yelled Baranovsky, always the one with jokes.

"Sure, once we find some! Too late for that now!" Yelled Vazov as he let his shot out on the German with the flare gun. It hit him square in the back, he crumbled onto the floor.

Unfortunately, the remaining German had managed slide past the squad's sights. He managed to grab the flare gun. Strokhov took the shot, again, the front of his rifle exploded as the bullet glided through the air. The German reached the front of the cave as the bullet flew to him... it missed.

"Oh, no..." was all Strokhov could muster. He failed, he failed his country, he failed himself.

The flare shot up. Above the mountains and exploded. The Germans now knew where the Echo Base was, and could stop Project: Relevance before it could get on the "front lines"

Echo Base, Ural Mountains, Russia, three hours later

*Reports have just come in, German forces have been spotted moving towards the base en-mass, how far are we until completion?*

The lead scientist spoke, "Now, we have several cases full of the toxin, and have left several in the hands of the Army to load into the artillery to show the Germans what a terrible mistake it was to invade our homeland..."

*Good, get your team ready for evac, some twelve miles East.*

"And what about the men outside? Are there transports for them?"

*They will die for Moth... they will die...*

The scientist stared at his radio, "Oh. Perhaps... very well."

*We expect you at the evac, we need you and your team at Vladivostok.*

Moments Later, Outside Echo Base

"Strokhov, get out!" yelled Lt. Banin

"No! I want to die for my country if I have too!" retorted Strokhov, Gagolin and Baranovsky shook they're heads. Strokhov's voice pierced the thin tent they were in.

"And we're telling you, you don't have to, Strokhov." said Vazov, "Your only 17, you don't have to do this, you shouldn't have to do this."

"Since when have any of you cared about me? About my age? About anything!" Strokhov yelled, "This is all my fault, its all my fault the Germans are breaching the caves as we speak..."

"Don't think yourself as so important, Private, they would have found out anyway..." Said Banin, "Its final, the scientists say they're willing to make space for a few more men on the trucks heading out to be picked up."

"Wait, how are they getting picked up in the middle of the Urals?" All heads turned to Gagolin, who stood in the front of the tent.

"I only pass the orders on, I don't read them" Said Banin

"Ah, chosen to lead, not to read. Not that you could do either very well anyway!" Said Baranovsky

Laughter filled the tent for a moment, all except for Strokhov's.

"No, I'm staying."

Banin looked at Strokhov, he looked at him up and down, he look him in the face and in the eyes. "This is not what I had planned" was all Banin said before he punched Strokhov dead in the face. He collapsed immediately. "And that's what happens when you don't listen to your superiors, you sorry bastard."

Berlin, Germany, February 10th, 1951

Adolf Hitler sat at his desk. The finalizing treaty with the representatives of what was left of the Soviet Union negotiated well. Especially Russia, which, however, neutered, would still become a major player some day. Hell, with that gas of theirs they could turn Eastern and Central Europe ablaze if they were heartless enough.

Hitler exploded into a fit of coughs. It was becoming the norm, Hitler was approaching the end of his life, and he had accomplished more than he could have ever imagined.

The Continental Europe were on their knees, the once great Soviet Union, lied disunited and in tatters. Britain was starving, and that Clement Attlee couldn't lead his way out of a brown bag...

But what had he lost? His health. His adulthood had been spent mostly in service of Germany. Also, more importantly, millions of young German boys, some of the brightest to ever walk the country... no the world were sent to the slaughter in service of Germany. He had also failed to achieve "Living space", but that was now the at the back of his mind.

A single tear rolled down his eye. It was over. But at what cost?

"Mein Führer, its done, I just received word from Warsaw, the treaty has been signed." spoke an Conrad, now one of his right hand man and most trusted confidant.

Hitler looked around and began to laugh.

"Mein Führer, what is the matter. What are you doing?"

"Conrad, I've waited so long for the end. I;m wishing I had strength to stand. This isn't what I had planned" Hitler laughed again, "Call me Adolf."

OOC: I couldn't wait until Tuesday, I'll have the overview update late tomorrow
