Additional Information

Thanks for the forced patch that locks the game up, and a how to fix document that contains directions to files that don't exist on the Windows 11 Steam install. Super helpful.

I have tried all the things in the How to Fix you sent out on Steam, and none of them have worked or the files that you want me to hack at in notepad don't exist on my computer. So good job on the patch and the help doc. Top notch.

Any advice on how I get the game to load would be fantastic. Would be awesome if you did testing before pushing dev code out to steam.

First, let's eliminate mods, as until they are updated by their authors they can cause problems after any new game patch. Please add --disableModding to the game's Steam launch options. Then start a new test city - do you still get these crashes then?

If so, please try this: Rename the "Cities Skylines II" folder in your C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order (to whatever you want) and then start the game. To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

The game will create a new clean CS2 folder and if that works it means that something in your original folder is corrupt and preventing the game from starting. Do NOT delete your original folder though as your saves are stored there and if you want to keep playing you'll need to move them over to the new fresh folder!

Let us know if that helps you. Good luck!

Hello,
I understand your frustration in trying to play the game and seeing the solutions include looking through logs yourself.

I understand you have trouble finding your C:\Users\%username%]\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\Player.log file?
Please make sure you have hidden folders visible when navigating through the windows explorer, or accessing the folder directly by pressing WIN + R and pasting this path in: C:\Users\%username%]\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\

After pressing enter the folder should open.

Would be awesome if your instructions included the fact you have to hunt for hidden files. Thanks for the clarification, perhaps put that into your fix instructions on Steam.

The first thing I did is went mod-free. Still won't load. The issue doesn't seem to be mods.

The logs do not have any file structures listed in the areas indicated. Just strings of what appears to be Unity code.

Tried this. Game won't launch from Steam, renamed it back, Steam can't find game.
Had to do a full reinstall (2nd one on this quest to get your product to work).

On second reinstall game continues to Cloud Screen of Death.

Renamed the Cities Skylines II folder a second time. Problem continues.

Deleted Cities Skylines II folder - losing all local save data and settings.

Restart computer.
Restart steam.
Restart game.

Was able to start a new city, mods off.

Thankfully my save files on Steam are still around, but I loading them is dangerous as they are all built using mods.

Thank you for the detailed update. Does that mean your issue is resolved for now?
