I was to post this question at the 'all the rest thread', but it seems menaced of extinction...

I'm playing the IGC as Russia, and starting with Ivan Grozny as monarch ('the Terrible' isn't it?), Russia now has a status of 'colonial dynamism', getting 4 settlers/year (+1 per orthodox).

Never played as Russia in the standard campaign, so I don't know if this is normal or not.

Anyway, it has come very handy...;)

In the IGC at the beginning You should have only 1 settler per year (because of orthodox) - I have tested this.
In the original GC to get this one settler per anno You have to conquer a port first (most human players do this very soon anyway). The colonial dynamism comes only later (1550 or so). So I´m puzzled about how You can have 4 settlers per anno in the beginning.
The game starts with Ivan III. Ivan III was an able monarch, who laid the foundations for Russia becoming a great power later. But isn´t Ivan IV - the conqueror of all the lands down south including Astrachan - called 'Ivan the terrible?'

Ooops, sorry. Maybe I was wrong, I though that Ivan Grozny was Ivan IV 'the Terrible'. The 'colonial dynamism' starts with Ivan IV (around middle 16th century), not at the very start of the campaign.

Btw, I've seen that the excellent graphics (the animated figures) of McGuinn doesn't appear in the IGC. Is a fault of me, or it was not possible to implement the animations in the IGC?

The best part of asking a question to Hartmann is that one always has the certainty to be answered... ;)

(Thanks, man)

Huh, no, even I cannot reply to every posting addressed at me and it get´s increasingly difficult to keep up ...

McGuinn provided 'only' shields and flags for the IGC. The unit graphics shown on his site are only to add a little more atmosphere. It would be a hell of work to animate them. Anyway - as there´s a problem with hardcoded relations of tags to graphics, we couldn´t do it. E.g. if we would implement the graphics for Greece, then EVERY tag attached to the original latin set would show Greek uniforms ...

Regards, Hartmann

Doesn't Russia have a specific army-dude graphics set with the green turkish-capped guys gifted with bulging biceps (perhaps suggesting that the Russians are sexual GODS)? How would doing a change just for the special Russian army guys affect the other orthodox nations?

In fact, the SUD bare-assed army graphics are cool and very underused. Maybe all the European armies should fight, not with chain-mail clad dinky pikemen, huge panted goofy conquistadors, or imported American minutemen mercenaries (revenge for all those Hessians), but with naked black guys wielding spears...England, Germany, Italy, Russia, and most of all, Scandinavia must have had billions of underused naked black guys living in their Nordic climates. Why not recruit them in the army?
