When attempting to build a new colony/trade post in pristine lands I found that sometimes I can only place one or the other, usually the one being not available that I would have wanted.

For example:

- a southwestern region (Ovambo?) enables the 'new Colony' button only, when I really just want a trade post.

- for years I have a mission saying 'colonize Hochelagu' (sp?). I know the province (it is near Quebec), I even have a trade post there, but I cannot start a colony. Why?

Any explanations?

thanks

Have you downloaded the latest patch?

It was a problem pre 1.01 or 1.02.. i dont recall

i would check if this hochelagu is a coastal province or is adjacent to a colony with a pop of 700+ only those are available for colonists. Traders IMHO should always be possible if you have the tech

Hochelagu is right next to Quebec, my second colony in NA, and a city for a long time. That could not be it.

I think that it is a bug. In my latest game (as Turkey) I again cannot send a trader to Ovambo, while the settler option is available.

yes i get the same 'bug' ('feature') all the time. so far do not see the pattern at all, I don't think I should ever be able to send a colonist *IF* I cannot send a Trader.
