Hey
Loving the events and all the new stuff in the patch. But.. I started a new game this evening that ended premature after getting my first dome setup. Among the two first missions given to me, i ended up taking the one that my vehicle could use. The event was about a rocket that had crashed and i had two options, investigate it using blowtorches or leave it alone. I investigated it and behold, It blew up, and took my one and only rocket in addition to the vehicle i sent there to complete the mission with.

Now i dont complain about the mission itself, but the timing of it. Getting hit like that in my first 10 sols, is poor game design in my opinion. There should be a restriction on what kind of terrible things can happen to you in the early game. I played Japan, Futurist and have only 1 rocket to start with. I had next to no chance on recovering from it. I open science and i was far away from patents repeatable in order to make up for the lost money. This ended my game, very sad about that. The event prior to this happening, i got a 100% increased cost to electronics for the next 5 sols. That is okay tho, but loosing the only rocket and the vehicle, that is just overkill. I would not mind this happening in the mid/end game, when you naturally would get a hit, but not a game-ending one.

Japan is a hard sponsor, in no small part because of exactly that risk. Injecting some genuine risk of failure is a good thing IMO; otherwise, it's a foregone conclusion it will work out, with the only question being how fast you accomplish your goals for the colony.

Also, if it was anything like the events I've seen, there would have been a conservative option that would not have risked the rocket.

I had 2 options dude. Investigate or leave it alone. There was no way for me to know that i would risk my only rocket. If you think that is good game design, then we would just have to agree to disagree :) It is totally fine to get penalties, but a penalty that is game ending in the first 10 sols, is poor. The only lesson i learn is to avoid that mission in future games.

By the way, Injecting a genuine risk of failure, is not injecting definitive failure.
