  • Supreme Ruler 2020
  • Supreme Ruler: Cold War
I wish to be the first one to create a scenario for the Syrian Civil War, that extends, hypothetically into the third decade of the twenty-first century. (In other words, 2020)

I want to fight in-game as Bashar al-Assad (or some future successor) against the rebel units with 2020-like weapons on both sides, in the excellent look & feel of Supreme Ruler Cold War, yet the new game is more difficult for me than I have ever expected it to be.

However, whilst I have managed to create the alternate 'Syria' rebel faction, I have never managed to separate 'Halab' (Aleppo) from the rest of Syria as a separate state with borders surrounding it, nor have I even succeeded in making the rebel's order of battle honourably succeed (instead it simply disappears off the map eccentrically).

In addition, I also wonder if there is a MAPX editor to allow users to modify game borders as if they were doing it on some 'Paint'-like programme without difficulty, or if there are intentions to create such an editor to make things easier for amateur scenario editors such as myself whom wish to extend the game's scenarios.

Lastly, for now, using current means, how do I make 'Halab', the rebel headquarters, into a separate state from main Syria?

Enigmatically however some user called Fistallis managed to do so for his/her Modern World Mod, creating entirely new borders for Waziristan's Emirate. The same person accomplished this for the FARC rebel units' borders.

How did he do so for Waziristan however? Pakistan never had subdivisions in the game either, nor did Afghanistan yet he created a little circle around two different areas between these two nations to make Waziristan.

I wonder, was this area already drawn separately then?

I wouldn't say "actual" subdivisions, it was the subdivisions that worked for us at a given time. The available subdivisions of France for example reflect the SR2020 storyline and are never used divided in SR-CW. The US divisions do however match State boundaries. The map was upgraded to the new version of the game which caused new divisions to be added (Ex. Morocco) and others to be changed (Ex. China) but if there was no need to change the divisions, they where simply grouped back together.

Very well, I suppose I shall ask him about this.

As for groups, do hitherto you mean the map has been drawn based on actual subdivisions of each nation?

The short version is I found a way to do it using events that was never intended, and George was nice enough to add some new code so that my unintended bug became supported.(well kinda, I mean its not totally supported but he added a flag on event codes I could flag so his fixes wouldn't break my "bug", which update 2 originally did.) ;)

The short long version is.. Add regions in the data, the last code in the event lines allow you to determine if the event fires even if a nation is dead. Setting this to true, a long with setting the code to not remove that nation on death, + setting war with whoever owns land you want them to have. Then spawning rebels via event systems in areas you want them to control.

The Long Long version.. maybe if you're lucky Hullu has the transcripts of our back and forth via PM when I walked him/her through it, cause I don't have the time to go over every file and entry needed to be edited. Although it may not be detailed enough for you since hullu was already pretty well versed in modding the SR series.

P.S.
just so you know.. syrian rebels will be added in the next version of the modern world.. just haven't been updating it while we wait for update 3.

Thank you for the reply.

As for the Syrian rebels, I would not only love to have it in the Modern World scenario, it would also be my honour if it could become a part of the 2020 one as well, which is why I needed to know how to do this. (I want to create something where hypothetically the war continued for another 8 additional years moreover also to the point where it suddenly becomes a futuristic conflict with these marvellous bipedal military vehicles the game has ;) )

It would be excellent however if Hullu may provide this transcript over private message to me to have this so that I can get working on this as soon as I can. :)

Unfortunately as far as the event codes inside the.csv file are concerned I cannot do much since the supremewiki site went down, leaving me without important instructions concerning those events.

I have(had?) a PDF of the event information that George sent me which is where I got most of the info that was on the wiki, if/when I can ever find it I'll post it for download on my site. Been trying to locate it on my HD since the wiki went down but for the life of me I cant remember what it was named. Had a strange name so search is useless.. lol
