That's it, I'm more than 70% done with all research, and have even researched "Large Scale Excavation" - but how do I use up the waste rock that is pilling high all over the planet now?

Since tech is randomized you might get it late. You just got unlucky. It is in the Engineering branch and costs 15k tech. It really not that useful, only to get rid of the waste you got since you can get the strip mine that will give you infinite concrete (50/sol).

You mean the excavator? No way I can afford to build that atm, 200 machine parts is way beyond my means.

The excavator and the Liquification solves the same problem (concrete in late game), but the later usually cheaper tech, and don't need an expensive building, also has a really big front load from all the rocks around, you can easily get 1000+ concrete within days of that research if you have a few storage.

Sent some rare metal to generate more money so you can buy them if you still can't support a second/third machine part factory yet.

I got a game where I was unlucky enough to have waste rock to concrete right behind the excavator wonder tech which is always the last one in the row. I was able to do ok due to break through excavator ai which allowed me to invest more heavily in rare metal mining.

Got the same problem, I have 80% of the tech tree unlocked but no liquification yet.. guess im just unlucky.
Now my base is completely surrounded by waste rock and im not sure what to do with all of it...

Yer there is research to turn waste rock into cement, until then you need a lot of dump sites, but when you have the tech you can lower your dump sites to around 3 , as water geneerators and mines will still bring up waste rock every so often and the research only works if there on a dump site.

It actually works without dumpsite, even from the rocks on the map (like the surface metals), probably it turns all rocks harvestable like the metal internally, so no need for dumping site unless you produce too much rocks to use as concrete

You need 10 waste rock to turn into 2 concrete or 5 waste rock for one concrete.

It is better and easier to organization your waste rock so they go where you need the most concrete beforehand for dome building program.

In my recent game I manage to unlock a medium size dome and built one. It took a LOT of dump site to meet the burst demand for concrete. Which nicely free up a lot of dump site for other purposes.

You can also use dump site to move all waste rock away from extractor/other area so you don't have to move waste rock around if you need to build there.

I wouldn't completely dismiss dump site as useless.

Never said they are useless, very much needed for proper look and to use the space around the extractors for anything. Just not needed for concrete conversion. Medium dome and free concrete, either lucky on concrete or unlucky on dome, got mega before the rock to concrete tech, not that it was really needed just convenient, so did not pushed for it.
