Hello paradox forum, I'm having a rather difficult problem getting my friend to host a game or even connect to my games. He cannot join valkyrnet either. He installed the game today and we have been talking for hours on how to fix it and trying numerous things. He is not behind a router but he has a cable modem. He also has a firewall but we turned that off and it still didn't work. His firewall is McAffe Security Center and there seems to be no option to forward ports, but that wouldn't matter anyway because we turned the firewall off and the game still didn't connect. We tried connecting with his default gateway address to the modem and got nowhere with that.

When we tried all of this, he wasn't on the administrator's name (win XP) so perhaps that has something to do with it? Just a guess.

And for those of you who think that the problem lies on me isn't true because I have played games and hosted games with Europeans and Americans alike.

Therefore, I am out of Ideas, and have open doors to any new ideas that come except the ridiculous ones. Whoever solves this gets a gift basket mailed to their door. Thank You.

(I'm not serious about the basket, but I'm that desperate to offer)

I had similar problems with a friend. We got things going rather nicely using Hamachi which allows you to set up a "LAN" over the internet. It is available at Hamachi.com. There's no fooling with routers and ports etc.
I have no idea why Paradox cannot make their MP games playable without all the tinkering.
I know Hamachi works with HOI1 and it is reported to work with HOI2. The only catch is you might need to turn off your firewall or make some adjustments to same.

Cheers,
Mike

I have two friends trying to play, making it three total. We all have hamachi, we all can ping each other in it and see each other, but we cannot connect to each others games....

I have to disable my firewall to get it to work. I tried to "allow" HOI access through the firewall, but it didn't work. I have not investigated it further (I should by specifying ports perhaps) but have not had any ill effects in over 10 hours of playing.
