In my recent game as Austria I recieved a Conquistador/land explorer in the mid 16th century. And as Austria you really do not need any since its just as easy to sack Venice's capital and get their maps instead of spending resources exploring.

Natrually I was busy doing, well other things, and completely forgot about the unit. its now in the mid 18th century and get this, HE'S STILL THERE. I'm booking the next flight to Wien as it seems there is a fountain of youth located somewhere in the region.

That's a bug. Random explorers and conquistadors will live forever, unless they get killed in battle or in some other way. Will be fixed in the next patch. So no need to go to Vienna. :)
And i have and explorer in my current GC as France, lived nearly 100 years already. Mainly thanks to him i have explored all the seas of the world. And he's still young and vital and ready to explore new seas... if there were any. :)

The latest patch (due out Wednesday last I saw) is supposed to kill off these random leaders -- but only in new games, not saved ones. I've already asked. :)
