Recently purchased and patched the game for my new laptop, but when playing any time I move the cursor over a list (such as the list of negotiation offers, or trade goods in port) it scrolls straight to the bottom, and I have no way to access the items higher up on the list other than by first removing the items from the bottom.

For example, if Diamonds are at the top of a trade list when I enter a relevant port, and there are enough other goods available for scrolling to begin, I would be unable to select or buy the Diamonds without first buying items lower down, such as Tar, to remove the scrolling entirely.

I have tested this using a USB mouse aswell as the trackpad on my laptop, but the issue remained with both.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532, and I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Any help or advice for fixing this?

After looking into this further, I did eventually find a solution, so it occurs to me that I should post it here incase anyone else ever has the same issue.

The touchpad / mouse drivers which seem to come with the laptop by default (called ALPS) are, basically, horrific, replacing them with a different set of drivers (called Synaptics, available from the Acer support site for Windows 7) seem to work far better in various respects, and EIC is now playable.

My own silly fault, I suppose, for trusting the installed drivers when they claimed to be the most up to date.
