Hello,

I wanted to pick up the game after months unmodded, the game crashes after only 5 minutes of playing. When I try to restart it doesn't even start.

Weird thing is out of like 10 crashes, I only got one crash report. Others just happen without any notification, the game just shuts down.

I have attached the only crash report I have. Mind you I don't experience this with any other game, including other Paradox games.

Thank you

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Thank you very much. The first paragraph solved my problem.

Cheers!

ok now I have apparently unlocked a new type of crash:

After 10-15 minutes of playing the game just shuts down and the application is stuck like this (happened 4 times now). It doesn't Stop unless I forcefully shut Steam down. No crash files this time around. Would appreciate if you can help again. Really wanna give this game a second shot but it just won't let me play

Hi,

Thank you for the response. I attached 4 files. There was no exceptions.log under Paradox Interactive\Victoria 3\logs.

That .json file shows the framerate cap is off, did you enable it and set it to 60?

What fps do you see in the game just before it crashes?

Ok, somehow the game resets the options when I start it. Here is a screen recording showing how it automatically goes from 60 to 144 between two launches (idk how):

Also, by trial and error I may have found the cause of this problem. Every time my game crashes, the Color Blindness option goes to Default (normally I choose Tritanopia). So now I tried playing without the Tritanopia filter and the game doesn't crash... Is this a known issue?

I've seen some cases recently where only the Windows desktop refresh rate is accepted, despite Vsync being off. I suspect this is an nVidia change or bug.

Can you try setting the Windows desktop to 60 then run the game - does it also go to 60, and does that help the problem?
