It seems that a few other people are having the same problem as I am - The sound that happens when a country gains monopoly in another countries trade centers just does not stop. This didn't happen in my game until 1653, but I'm just about fed up with it - and it's only 1668 now!!

I did find that I could reduce that annoying sound by going into my SB-Live Direct Sound settings and dropping that down. But I don't want to have to mess with my system options every time I want to play.

I can go back to previous saved games before 1653 and the noise is not there, but does eventually come back on when a monopoly is gained. Oh I've tried not to let anyone gain a monopoly <g>, but those bloody Incans... I don't get why it would suddenly happen after years of monopolies changing hands.

Anyway, it is now at the point where I will be shelving EU until the next patch, or permanently if this issue can't be resolved.

Anyone have any ideas at all??

Well that's a relief! I thought it was just me that had this problem.

I agree totally that the 'music' becomes infuriating after a while with no apparent means of switching it off.

Mine happened around the same times as Syke O'Path's - I'm playing the fantasy scenario as the Iriquois and yes it happened when a monopoly occured but only after many hours of play. I ask the same question - what triggers this around 1650 but previous monopolies pass without incident?

I've tried everything that Syke has done - resaving, turning the windows sound right down etc - and nothing works.

It is driving me mad - please fix asap!!
