Just got home, installed and patched it. I tried both resolutions multiple times, the game crashes to desktop right after load, before the map appears. Any ideas?

Have you tried renaming the AVI folder to AVI_OLD (win XP does not like BinkPlayer)?

Check if the save game or the scenario files are corrupted / truncated. That was a problem for me w/ EU2.
