Hi, I tried the game with a Steam Controller that emulates Xinput.

First and most important, D-Pad and D-Pad right don't do anything, so that needs to be fixed ASAP. I think there are other buttons that don't do anything either, or do something that they shouldn't. Just try the basics and you'll find more.

And then, some suggestions:

1. Please map any keyboard bindings to speed up and speed down. PDX games use Numpad+ and Numpad- for these, and they're great if we need to map these with external tools like Steam Input.
2. If possible, when activating Controller support just force the UI to stay as Controller UI at all times. This is a minor concern, but it really helps in the case we want to use Mixed Input (Controller + Mouse Emulation)

Thanks and I hope you fix these ASAP, it's kinda hard to fix the speed issues without some work.

Not a Steam expert here, but there are ways to bind and remap controllers for some games. Might help you.

As for me, I've always used keyboard and mouse in general, as a mouse is more accurate than a controller, though I can see analog sticks being used omnidirectionally among other things as reasons some prefer controllers.

One last thing, you may not have noticed this, but you posted your 50th message on Paradox forums, and got a rank upgrade for the milestone. Wanted to say kudos for your time here.

Thanks for the answer and the congratulations.

Yeah, I already work with plenty workarounds for various issues (hard to explain, but I already have the speed set up - it did require to have an extra "ghost" button press that needs to be triggered 0.5s after I press the keyboard binding), and the Steam Controller has 2 touchpads that can easily emulate any type of input, including mouse. There's no need to, for this game, though, since it mimicks what Haemimont did in Tropico 4/5.

Sounds like you are making do with what you have. Kind of like survival stories you hear about, fictional or otherwise. Have fun, chum!

Heya! Thanks for the information - most controllers should work without issues by default, but I'll add this to our investigation lists to see what could be causing the issue!

From experience in other games, when this happens is when you make a call for a specific controller (like, Xbox Series X instead of Xbox 360) instead of a more global Xinput call. But it's weird since all the other buttons work.

I've noticed that this goes in line with Speed Up and Speed Down not having a default keyboard binding either... maybe related?

Hmm, as far as I know (not a programmer though so could be wrong), our game does not call for any specific controllers, instead a generic one. As our game is planned to be released on the Switch and PS4 as well, we've been making all controller based settings in a more generic way to support each platform immediately.

I'll make sure we investigate this, no idea when we will be able to push out a fix, but we are working on this!

Hey Joanna, I just tested all this again in the Platinum update and thankfully everything is working as intented, tested all the buttons displayed on screen, and no issue at all. The only button that's not doing anything is Select which according to the gamepay layout it should "open feedback query", which I think it's redundant since Right Bumper opens a Bug Report window.

Again, everything else works correctly!

@notNSANE The "Open feedback query" is actually for situations when there are those "What do you think about this feature?" type of questions in the screen :) So it shouldn't do anything unless a question like that is visible. Superhappy to hear though that everything is now working! As far as I know we have not done any specific fixes on this, however we have been doing a lot of console fixes, so maybe it got fixed at the same time. Main thing is - it's fixed! :)

My xbone s controller works fine until steam is open, it then acts as some other device and an xbox controller at the same time. For example in DBXenoverse 2 my controls changes back and forth between Xbox controls and are numbered as if it were a generic contoller. Also the Guide button moves the mouse to the top left and turns up my system volume. I have no clue whats going on here. Additionally, my steam controller is no longer picked up by steam from either steam link or host PC.
