How to convert a friendly population? How to convert an enemy province?

Manstein

Not sure what you mean by converting an enemy province... but you can convert one of your own provinces to the religion of your state by sending a colonist to the province, when that province's population has fallen below 5000 (through suppression of rebellions, plague, etc.). When the colonist arrives, assuming it is successful, the religion of the province will change to match your state religion.

I have also seen in a couple of a cases a random event. In this case, when you put down a revolt, a message appears saying something about 'your troops have gone on a witch hunt' and then the religion of that province will be changed.

Thanks...that was my question. Pretty strange method though to convert my own provinces...some tweaking Johan?

The point is that the conversion of the entire population of a province. Was very rare, took very long time often decades. Further you had to persecute people, ie not tolerating their religion something that brought uprisings and rebellions. This is a very painful avenue for the player to traverse and that is IMHO very good and accurate.

I am playing Denmark in the GC. I went Lutheran, and all my provinces is now Lutheran, there is no Catholics in my country. But my provinces in Norway keeps revolting, it says that -4 of it is because of religion, how can that be? Also it says that the Kanzler causes -1, that must be a mistake! Because when you built it, it says that the Kanzler prevents revolts! So shouldn't it be +1?

I don´t know of the religious factors, but Kanzlers doesn´t increase stability, they decrease it. You get that information when you build them and in the manual (pheeww... german... must remember what I learned a long time ago... :)).

Yes, in history England only succeded with that in the nothern part and only partially. But if they have been even more inhuman and killed more irish catolichs they mave haave succeded.

You forget something.
The risk for rebellion is expressed in %, hence -1 would be less risk for rebellion.
-4% is, I believe, the best you can get from the religion bars.

Britain sent large numbers of settlers to Northern Ireland in the early 17th century, resulting in that region being predominately Protestant. Theoretically, if the rest of Ireland had been devastated by numerous uprisings (as presumably would be necessary in the game to reduce the population to the level necessary for conversion) and more settlers had been sent out, then the rest of Ireland would become majority Protestant as well. Not very likely, though. It's too bad that EU has each province be a single religion, instead of keeping track of percentages of various religions for each province.
