I've just tried playing the standard HOI2 DD (patched to 1.3) for the very first time, after having only played with CORE 0.25, and was absolutely shocked at the shoddy tech-trees. Unlike CORE, which sensibly gets the player to continue investing in technology research throughout the game, making research more interesting and more involved, standard HOI DD has a significantly reduced number of techs to research(perhaps because the original HOI1 had far too many vast tech-trees to deal with). I've already exhausted all 1936-timed techs, as of April/May 1936, and am having to research 1937 techs now, which appear to be nowhere near as slowly researched as they would have been if I'd researched CORE 0.25 techs before their official date/year. So, it looks as though I'll be finishing almost all techs, except secret weapons techs, by 1940-41 at the latest, at this rate.

Anyway, I thought I could cut this game and start again with CORE 0.25 and the DD 1.3 patch. As I recall, CORE 0.25 isn't supposed to interfere with the game AI, it just alters the tech-trees, so shouldn't it work fine, as long as it's applied after the 1.3 patch is installed?

We haven't really tested it yet (we will for 0.30), but it probably will work without major problems.

And I do like your statement about the regular hoI tech tree... It proves our point in completely restructuring it. ;)
