It would be an awesome flavor add if each country (or at least culture group) had different interface, like HOI2. You could have marble coloring for the Italian states and maybe oak for the Brits. I don't know how complex the programming would be but just wanted to throw it out there. Another idea I had was portraits of rulers, although I could see that being very tedious. Looking forward to the game. Love the idea of changing coat of arms and total historical immersion!

Perhaps Paradox would let you 'borrow' the Crusader Kings faces/code for Monarchs. It might be nice if their clothing/hairstyles changed late in the game, but otherwise I could just see using them straight-up.

It just requires a new entry for countries definition, several gfx interface folders... and a lot of changes in the source code for path to the right gfx files but nothing difficult here, just a matter of time.

Do you think copyright would be an issue with some of the rulers portraits? I really don't know how that works legally. And for those always ellusive rulers, just have some generic blank, or even the country coat of arms filling in.

The game ends in 1819. I'm sure we have the right to use their faces 200 years later.

I think HOI2-like system would be ok in case of EU2. Hope that this future will be implemented in FtG.

Why? I believe the iconographic sources for EU2 period (especially for Europe) are very rich?

I was really commenting on the ruler image part. I think for many countries (Europe is not the only continent), we're lucky to have a monarch list, let alone portraits.

Ah, I tend to disagree. You are right, the Europeans will most likely be the easiest to get portraits off, but there are many portraits of Asian and Middle Eastern leaders too out there. Wikipedia is a plethora of images. Even Moctezuma (Montezuma) is in some paintings. They might not have resembled the true man, but it is workable.

I think you underestimate the sheer amount of nations in the game. It is hard to find a reliable list of Sundanese monarchs, let alone images of them.:D

No to mention possible copyrights for images...

Not to mention the completely useless features... :)
Please...
I understand the joke here but flavor can't be bad for immersion. There is a difference between being able to implement something and really doing it.

I really think that it would be no problems with the stuff created more than 200-300 years ago:)
Not always true, it depends.
