Just bought the game but it crashes when I try to lunch it.

I have tried every method I could find on the internet and nothing works.

when i try to run the game. I get the first loading screen but then it just crashes after 3-4 seconds.

Methods I have tried:

Verifying game
Lowered/changed graphics from the graphic control panel
Reinstalled graphic drivers
Made sure Windows is updated
Unplugged different USB devices
Cleaned temp files
Reinstalled game
Started as administrator
Lunched game straight from the exe file in the steam dictionary
Updated Java
Checked anti virus program and firewall
Checked internet connections and potential issues
Tried lunching it in windowed mode
Lunched it in lesser resolution.
Tried to run it on older patches

My PC have a few years on its shoulders but I run quite heavy games on this rig still without problem:

Witcher 3
Guild Wars 2
Fallout 4 that is modded to death
Heavily modded Skyrim
Resident Evil 2 remake
Mordhau (Which isn't a very optimized game to begin with)

Some of these games I play while having multiple internet windows open with YouTube and such.

This game might be new but these games should cause a lot more problems than Crusader Kings 3 just by the sheer amount of information my CPU should have to process.

I have had some problems earlier with a lot older games like Left 4 Dead. Apparently my NVidia don't recognize that game therefor I have to run it with my integrated graphics card. But that does not seem to be the problem here either, I have tried.

Here is everything you can get out of the system logs from the moment i tried playing it yesterday night ( around 2am) when i bought the game until this evening

I would try forcing the game to use your Nvidia card via the Nvidai Control Panel

though also my understanding is that 1.1.2 introduced an issue wiht dual Gpu systems like your laptop. One solution right now is to rever back to 1.0.3 ifyou have Steam

I have tried to force the game to use the NVidia card, and I have also tried to lunch the game with the older versions. However i haven't tried all "combinations" so to speak. I go trough and see if any of the versions of my game works with my NVidia or integrated graphics card. So far I'm not sure which card i used when i tried the older versions.

I will get back to you.

So I tried what you suggested. I have tried all the versions of the games on all my graphics cards now. None of the combinations worked.

I have also realized that my NVidia GeForce experience App does not show Crusader kings 3 under "Games" and on their website its not under recognizing game either. This concerns me because I get a feeling my graphics card might be overlooking CK3. That's what happened with Left 4 Dead, and another game called Mordheim, which forces me to run them via my integrated card. However CK3 does not work with my integrated graphics card either as I already stated.

I think your Paradox Launcher is corrupted

  • exit the Steam app entirely
  • uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.
Delete the following folders if still present:
  • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
  • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
  • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

As for the Nvidia Control Panel, you generally can point to the ck3.exe directly rather than relying on Nvidia to populate a list

I tried to reinstall the launcher. Still the same issue.

Yes I'm aware of that but when I go into my hard drive trough the NVidia experience and try to pin point it, CK3 won't show up in the folder. I also tried to scan the steam folder and Ck3 folder but no game shows up. It's really strange. But it's not only Ck3 there's a lot of other games that I cannot find as well.

I could use some help, my game worked initially then it crashed once of many times during an auto save exit and never would launch after that. I have installed reinstalled updated game steam and launcher even sent my cpu back to factory setting I still can't get it to launch. I wont sent the error reports in generates either.

Your issue is unrelated to the one this thread is about. In future please start your own thread, thanks!

We now think this is an issue with dual CPU systems.
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) J4005 CPU @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz

CPU or GPU slightly below the minimum requirements should not cause a crash like this. If that is confirmed there will be a hotfix soon to address that problem.

Sorry about that!

In the meantime you can revert the game to version 1.03 in the Steam Betas tab for the game, which does not have that problem.

I've never seen those two crashes in paradox launcher.exe you have in that dxdiag. In this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

What happens if you run ck3.exe directly from Windows Explorer?

I will try to run it trough windows, but where do I run that from exactly? From your website?

Here's the logs in the meantime

Or by windows explorer do you mean just by going into the folder in steam and start it from the ck3.exe file?

In that case, yes I have tried that.

I have also tried to run it as administrator, with different windows compatibility and I also tried to make it run by administrator by default by going into the properties.

I posted the logs you asked for!

Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package for Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2020.13-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then please repeat the launcher reinstall procedure from post #7 above.

Good luck with that!

What exactly happens, what do you see on the screen?

The exact same thing, I get the first loading screen of crusader kings 3 for about 3-4 seconds. Then it just crashes.
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

After I am done with the files and uninstalling the launcher. Should I start the game via steam or should i press the launcher installer in the folders that I just downloaded?

Always start via Steam, you should not ever have to run the launcher installer manually.
