I have the UK version, and I observed the following
problem with both the original bought version (identified
as version 1.07), and then the patched version (1.07c).

I can't save a game. When trying to do so, I crash
back to the desktop. When I check the saved games
directory, I find one empty (i.e., size = 0KB) file
of the appropriate name. (From what I've been reading
there should be two files at the very least.) My disk
is not full, so that's not the problem.

My system is Win98 (SE I think) with an ATI gfx card,
and what I believe is a standard SoundBlaster sound card.
If there are any other details I should provide, I'm
happy to do so, as long as you tell me how to find out
what I need to know (I'm a Windows novice).

Michael - this bug is a complete show-stopper!

I have the same problem! The only thing that seems to run properly is the grand campaign.
Win98SE
Matrox G400Max
256M
SB Live!
Memorex CD48
PIII 500

more details

I have played around with this bug a little more:
I can reproduce it by trying to start as Sweden,
Poland-Lithuania or Austria in the 'Three little mice'
scenario and attempting to save as the very first thing
I do.

Like mmaddocks in the previous post on this thread, I seem
to be able to play (and more importantly, save) from the
Grand Campaign. Interestingly, if I do this, then quit
('surrender') from the GC, and then
start 'Three little mice', I find I can then save
from this scenario. Of course, it's quite possible that
this would work for other scenarios, not just TLM.

I haven't tried to load any of these saved games, but
there are two files on the disk afterwards, one .cfg that
is 1KB and a .eug file that is 1.8MB so these look like
games that might plausibly be loaded.

The only other variable I can think of that might be
causing my grief is that I have a utility called
GoBack on my system that
is apparently hooked into the OS at a very low level and
which provides file-watching and a degree of automatic
version control. Could the EU code for writing stuff
out to disk be running into something that GoBack is doing
to protect me?

Michael.

I am not running Go Back at this time. I was until that if you play games that the disk activity that they produce completely fill the Go Back cache in short order negating the usefulness of Go Back. For instance after about 45 minutes of Baldur's Gate II the furthest back I could restore to was when I started playing the present session!
Off came Go Back.

Cannot save while playing Russia in "Great Northern War"

I just finished playing Sweden in the 'Great Northern War' campaign and everything worked perfectly. Then upon finishing (and winning!), I restarted playing as Russia. I've tried 3 times, but everytime I try to save the game....boom....back to the desktop as if I never began! Interesting that the bug only works while playing Russia as opposed to Sweden...

I haven't yet tried other campaigns or sides; I'll experiment later tonight.
