Hi everybody,

just finished (got bored of) CivIII and was ready to give EU2 a try. Spent a few days studying the manual and reading up on the game, but now that I am ready to play I find that it's impossible to play for more than 5 minutes at a time due to the crash to desktop bug. I've read about other people encountering this bug, but only after hours of playtime.

Running:

PIII @ 933
256 RAM
GeForce 2
Win XP

I tried the whole range of detonator drivers, to no avail. Tried differnt screen resolutions, no change. Tried to disable apps running in the background, nothing. What else can I try? (Applied both patches, of course).

this belong in the support forum.

There is thread called "running problems" and it contains lot of helpful suggestions.

Usually defragging the hard drive will help. Follow the instructions to completely uninstall the game an reinstall it again.

Go to control panel, sounds&mutltimedia, advanced options of your playback device and in the performance tab and reduce the hardware acceleration to none.

Do the same for your graphic card and if it works better, increase it by a notch until it starts crashing (same with sound).

I'm not sure about XP, but in WinME, there is a trouble shooting option in the System applet of the control panel (under file system). Check the box for "disable write caching for all drive" and "disable new file sharing [...]".

Do you have the latest drivers for everything on your system? (sound card, motherboard&chipset, IDE drives controller, etc.)
