Technical Problem

I have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch (incl. publisher):

CK (Koch Media), patched up to latest beta.

OS & build/SP:

XP Home Edition, SP2 Build 2600

Computer, CPU & speed:

x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~2412 MHz

RAM:

256 Mb (MINUS 32 for Video = 224 Mb)

Free HDD space:

47.09 Gb

Video (brand, model, driver, memory):

S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR Ver. 6.14, driver: 6.14.10.33, 32mb. (it sucks I know :) )

Sound (brand, model, driver):

Via Ac'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM), driver: 6.14.1.3870

DirectX Version:

9.0c (4.09.0000.904)

Other:

I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:

* Repeated new games crash after c.2 - 3 hours play with an error message. Error message cites Appname:crusaders.exe, Appver:1.0.0.1, , Modname: crusaders.exe, Modver:1.0.0.1, Offset:0014cd4.

Noted down where the error message was meant to be sent to (c:\docume~1..) but was unable to find the file to put up here.

Have recently changed to SP2 and directx9c after new install of windows. Never had such a message while using SP1 and directx9b - cause of this?
No other crashes with other games.

Thanks in advance for any and all help Castellon,

Zeb

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

If none of that helps, then:

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Thanks Castellon. Tried the standard tricks last night but will try again. Here's the DX results for the moment:

Well, couple of problems.

Memory is a concern, really you do not have enough memory to run XP on that system.
Adding some memory would be a MAJOR improvment for all your apps.

The Big problem though for your system is the VIA drivers, they are known to be buggy, but not much you can do about it with XP.

Check to see if there is an update for the video driver, I see it is pretty old. Also check to make sure you have the latest VIA drivers, they are buggy but hopefully they keep improving them.

Thanks Castellon.

Memory will get upgraded on this PC as soon as I have a new job and can upgrade everything :) As it is, I've got the system running on minimum everything to try and keep things ok. (Using JPD's advice).

The video driver is the last one published by the manufacturer but will try and hunt down another one.

The audio driver confuses me no end - all the drivers I can find need you to specify bridgesets and I have no idea what bridgeset I have  Will hunt it down.

Still a little odd because I've never had any problems with CK before (outside of bugs in patches), just since installing SP2 and directx 9c.

Cheers,

Zeb

Well I do know people that have restored to SP1 becuase of problems with SP2, Personally I never had one problem. But you could try it.

Hmmm, new drivers put in. But according to dxdiag, the official VIA drivers are 3 years older than the previous ones. I'm now scared to open my PC, in case it turns out that the CPU is being powered by a hamster on a treadmill...

Will play some more hours and see if it is helping, although I get the feeling that restoring back to SP1 may be the way to go.

Thanks for the advice Castellon,

Zeb

Good luck, sorry I could not be more help.
