Crashes, Crashes, Crashes...

Recently purchased the game, English-speaking version,
got the 1.3b patch installed.

Basicly, I've noticed that not only does the game slow down as time progresses in-game - it also tends to be more prone to crashing.

I can only assume this has something to do with the graphics, as I've noticed that removing the 'shields', troops and castles in the display tends to help the problem atleast for the moment - but not always.

I've more or less come to expect it to crash when the screen is cluttered with animations, but the game also at times crashes when saving or for no appearant reason at all...

I've had basicly the same exact problems with EU2 in the past - but less frequently than with this game.

Sorry for the late reply I have been on vacation.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

I can relate. Been on a vacation myself, so no sweat.

Anyway, did all the above - and granted it did improve somewhat, atleast for a while..

I tried to play after each 'change' in my config, and the renaming of the folder seems to have stabilized things quite a bit - atleast at first.. I'm totally at a loss as to what this can be..

Anyway - it keeps crashing, despite these things.
Again, I think this has to be a graphical problem of some sort, or perhaps a memory problem. My box is pretty new and shouldent have any problems running this sort of game, however...

NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 (I assume thats my graphics card, pretty much at a loss as to the technical stuff).

Anyway, as I've had these problems with EU2 as well - could it be some basic configuration in my puter? Or is the game engine just unstable?

Well, I've got a nugget the size of Manhattan as well, the game keep on crashing to desktop whenever some action starts (mostly, but not exclusivly). It all happend after the arrival of the horde, as my game was running smoothly. I've tried reainstalling it and just reapplying the saved game, but no luck, it still crashes, I'm pretty much lost. One thing I noticed is that it doesn't crash after a certain number of minutes has passed, when it's paused, it's rock solid, it's only when I unpause it that it starts to bug out. I've tried turning everything off in the backgroud (I'm running it on bare bones as it is) and still it crashes at an alarming rate, it's quite frankly disheartening and irritating.

Any suggestions?

EU2 is rock solid now.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Okay, thats the config stuff from direct X.

When it comes to EU2, I totally agree with you.. It _is_ rock solid now - which sort of makes me wonder - the games use the same basic engine, right?
I mean, if there was a problem before with EU2 which you guys managed to remove with one of the patches, it should be pretty easy to identify the problem and remove it - I dont mind waiting for the next patch

Okay I see a few problems.
1) Looks like your windows needs updating. you do not even have service pack 1 installed. Go to thier site and download all the critical and reccomened updates.
2) Your video card driver is horribly out of date. Update that as well.
