I bought and install the game today and when I’m in the game launcher and I click on "play" button, the launcher closes and the game does not launch.
I’m on arch linux with wayland. I already reinstall the game, check the integrity of the files, try all versions of proton. I already tried to run the .exe file with wine but it doesn’t work. I can’t find settings files like settings.txt in my files to change the game parameters. I really need help to fix that and play EU4

FYI the only distro supported for our games and launcher is Ubuntu. And nothing is supported under Proton, only when run as the native Linux client. But we'll see what we can do.

I know of two possible causes to this problem on Linux.

One is if you've used the Snap or Flatpack installs of Steam, which do not work well with our games. You need to use the native Linux client from Valve:

"Install Steam Now"

The other is an issue with Steam when you have Proton installed; Steam sometimes thinks you have the game on WIndows not Linux so installs the wrong version. If you see eu4.exe (ie the Windows executable) in your Steam folder for this game, that is the problem!

You can get past that as described here:

All the best!

Thank you for these informations. I have native Linux client and I havn't .exe file if i don't start the launcher with proton. So I think the problem is just I use arch and not Ubuntu

Run the eu4 executable in a terminal session command line (ie as ./eu4 ) . If it fails there , what output do you get?

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.txt
(Linux file locations are documented in the pinned thread above with "file locations" in its title)

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.
