I saved my game in 1448 and half a year later (game time ;) ) , the game crashed with obligato "not enough virtual memory" (this happens to me regularly when playing longer than 4 hours, although the option is set to adjustment of virtual memory according to the needs of system; isn't it some kind of mind-protection? ).
Well, I exit the game and tried to load the save. No way it was possible, until I found, that any game bigger in size than 90 MB cannot be loaded; it craches regularly at point "initialising script", then it goes black and windows tell me that it crashed  and give me option to report it.

I play on latest beta (well, Aug15), 256 MB RAM with at least 15 GB free on HDD. Where is the dead dog corpse?

As other people haven´t reported of such a problem I´d presume it´s caused by your hardware and/or hardware settings. Perhaps Castellon here in tech support can give some advice about the settings.

You have too little memory, that is clear. How much virtual memory do you have? Do you have other applications running simultaneously?

Try setting Virtual Memory higher manually, it can help. It might be that the "Adjust by need" setting is fine normally, but when CK suddenly requests significant increase to it, the CPU can't catch up quickly enough.

All excellent suggestions.

Also follow my standard advice.
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

thanx guys, i gonna try your recepies and hope to finnish the game... it will be sad to finnish praecox having 21 royal titles and bohemian king to rule them all in 1448! :)

Note that RAM is dirt cheap. With 50 euros you can have a brand new 562Mb memory and used 256Mb memories can be found for around 10 euros. Worth the investment IMHO.

Wow never heard of a 562 meg chip. :)

Hmmm, historically, I play CK on a Gericom laptop (having at home no other comp), which I've bought 2002 in Germany (I was living there for some years) . Well, Gericom has no service point in Czechlands and those few private comp companies, which I asked to update my laptop RAM memory refused saying that it is not possible. I am just a user, might be a little bit literate, but I am not going to cut my laptop's guts without having chance for it to recover ;) Just an explanation for the system setup used...

Bad luck... :(

I installed de novo the CK on a comp with 2 GB RAM and maximum virtual memory, with latest patch (8.12.2005), did all Castellon's recomms and... nothing. It died again at "initialising script". Not even the purge helped (90 MB > 27 MB). The closest file I was able to load up was 1436... seems to have some corruption inside... not even the autosave from January 1448 could be loaded...

Yes if the save has been corupted then it will not work.
If the memory messes up during the save process then you are doomed.

Only option is to continue from the last save that works or start a fresh game.

Good luck, hope you enjoy the game.
