Crashes

Hi,
My Victoria 3 crashes constantly when starting. It doesn't even get to the main menu. I've verified files on Steam, did a clean re-install and even tried rolling back the game version but nothing helped. I was able to play Victoria 3 before.
I'll be grateful for any help.

Your AMD® FX 8350 is just a little below the game's published minimum requirement, the AMD® FX 8370 . As they both run AVX I'm surprised that's made this big a difference, but I see no other cause for this in your case.

Can we see a dxdiag.txt please.

Please expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB.

Given how little space you have left on C: you might have to put the swap space, or at least part of it, on D:

And exit every other app you can before starting the game.


If that doesn't help, I don't hold out much hope I'm afraid ... you say it used to work? Was this under a previous game version? If so, try reverting to that in the Steam Betas tab for this game - does that older version still work?

Hey!
So I did everything you recommended and on 1.5.13 it still crashes on start. However, I rolled back to 1.2.7 (when I last played) and it works without any problems.
So what could be the problem?

As I said above, your CPU does not meet the game's minimum requirements. 1.2.x is three major patches ago; presumably the game is more fussy about the hardware meeting that minimum now due to extra features, a higher memory imprint, and so on.

You could try the 1.3 and 1.4 patches, but it looks like for 1.5 and later, you'll need to play on hardware that meets all those minimums.
