Playing as Nationalist Spain, the game crashes after the Danish Surrender event. Is there any quick solution or patch that I can use or will I have to reinstall my game and will THAT help?

I've tried to log on as another country (Germany themselves). I suppose I could take control of Denmark and fight to the bitter end and then switch back to Spain, but y'know, tht wouldn't be good for the Axis really...

... the game crashes after the Danish Surrender event.
I used to have this problem, too... not just once or twice, but nearly every time.

I fixed it like this: I went into /Paradox Interactive/Doomsday (or Armageddon)/db/events and opened hoi2.txt in Notepad. Then I used "Find" to go down to the line that said:

id = 6193

... typed exactly like that, with a single space on each side of the = sign.

Then I looked down a few lines and changed the line that read:

name = OK

... to:

name = "OK"

... in other words, I added quotes around the constant called OK.

Then I saved the new version of the hoi2.txt file (under the original name), and re-loaded my saved game. When Germany started beating on Denmark, I reduced the game speed a bit (lots of events firing at high speed can cause a crash)... and I've never experienced this crash since then.

Warning: This fix of mine does NOT have Johan's "seal of approval". I reported both the problem and the fix directly to Johan via PM, and in his return PM he just laughed and said that the game's parser just interprets OK as "OK" anyway, so according to Johan, that can't be the problem (or the proper fix for it). Still... it works for me...

Thanks! That seems to be the same problem.

But that made another interesting thing: it seems that it does not want to save. It claims that a new file could not be created and suggests that I should check the file name. The name is not the problem, as I can choose to click on the specific file in "save as".

Bt other events from this seems to have happened, not the least the original Weserübung event...

Are you running under Vista? It protects the /Program Files directory chain.

If so, you could move the entire game folder out of /Program Files... eg: to /Games. Then update your desktop icon to match the new path.

EDIT: Other possibilities... is the file write-protected? (check "Properties")

Yes, I run Vista. It has been nothing but trouble. Darnation!

Ah, well. Let's see how it works...

All the save games! They disapeared when I moved the files to /Games!

If you are running Vista...

Put everything back to where it was.

Then turn off UAC ... Here is how

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...nt-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/

Then you should be able to copy the files to another location... (like C:\games\hoi2dd

Bit of advise... NEVER EVER install anything in the C:\program files folder... Vista likes to "protect" them by virtualizing ... and it makes it hard to change things.

Installing Vista was the mistake of a lifetime... >=(

Now, a long time after, I have tested and it is as you have told me and it worked. Just wanted everyone to know, this might be a solution.
