The first standard questions are:
Have you followed the installation instructions exactly? (including making a parallel installation of the 1914 mod and deleting a lot of directories)
Are you sure that you installed the HOI2 version and not the DD version? You need an 0.4 HOI2 file and an 0.43 HOI2 file (so there are two places where you can go wrong)

Uninstall everything and re-install. It'll work, we've had no/very few such problems so far.
Mac OS 10.5
To All:
Just as a note, I have the Mac OS 10.5 operating system. I am able to manually install the 0.43 file (over the existing 0.4 mod) without problems, however, I run into a similar problem. Everything works fine up until you reach the "reading scenario" stage at which point its loads about 20 percent, then freezes, then crashes.
Considering the consistency of the error across different platforms and operating systems, it sounds like this may be an endemic Code problem.
Anyone have any ideas? Any work arounds?
