I'm sorry but the Persian unit pack just looks bad. It's the faces that screw it up. It makes it feel like it's rendering from 2006.

The render from the low angle doesn't do the faces so much justice, but you won't ever see them like this ingame. This is how they look in CK2:

So it seems CM has overwritten my saxon, celtic and norse unit packs and replaced them with "early middle ages" models. Is that working as intended, with the units returning to their old selves at some point in history like the clothing packs are supposted to? I do like the new sprites too, but I've paid for the pleasure of looking at my saxons, celts and norsemen trampling around killing eachother.

We've just posted up a new thread about the new early units, more info here ~ http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?808958-CKII-Charlemagne-Renders-Early-Units

A quick answer is that the sprites change to their newer specific looks again around the year 950.

I don't think necroing the specific thread, nor starting an entirely new one, is justified for this:

What are the Zealot models based on?

Official threads merely rest, necromancy is nothing to worry about here.

While the artist who created the model isn't around on Paradox anymore, and there's little documentation/references left for the specific model I made some research into it. I think it was made to be based somewhat on the Khazars, since they were one of the few countries starting with a Jewish population/ruler when the units were made.
