With Reaper's Due being the "Last" DLC being released for Crusader Kings II, do we expect there to be a few rumours of CK III? I hope so, cannot wait.

Where did you saw that? Often, they say "the last DLC" meaning the last "in date" DLC, not litterally the last. I remember reading that there are a few more DLCs planned.

also, even if reaper's due is the actual last CK2 DLC- which i VERY HIGHLY doubt as this game is probably going to grow older than Yoda before anyone will accept a replacement, CK3 would be the better part of a decade away from announcement at the very earliest.

They clearly stated a while back that they're winding down but there's still at least two DLC planned, one of which is apparently major and will focus on unplayable lands on the map.

They stated that they are winding down, but I don't think they were even close to implying that they are anywhere near done. They just stated that they weren't going to make any major overhauls to major existing systems.

i still wish they'd open up holy orders and permanent religious titles like the papacy and patriarchy in some fashion. because while they are till death end-level titles not rooted in dynastic bloodlines, unless you are a one man dynasty with no other titles at all for other family members to hold there should still be some overlap with the rest of your dynasty to ensure continuity.

I had miss read a page where it had said Conclave was the last DLC we have had RD since then so what does that page know. I would like to be able to play as the papacy, would be fun. I'm not pushing for a release, still loving CK2, I only found Paradox games recently, well over 3 years now I think about it, but in paradox games I have realised three years is nothing. Especially with all the post release work they do. But anyway I have a lot to play in the mean time, would just be nice to hear a rumour or two to know in about 5-6 years there may be a new one.

Do you know where they are planning to allow you to play? Would love the whole Old World, doubt that we will get that though.

It will probably be either west, unlocking the Americas in a late-game-overhaul expansion or more asian stuff like china or japan.
I dont see a point in expanding africa even more, since huge parts were basically tribal (or even hunter-gatherer) throughout the era.

ah the joy of being new blood. you joined at a pretty good time. i joined in 2012 when CK2 was much less fleshed out, EU4 was still in development, and people were still wondering wether HOI 3, V2, or EU: Rome would get a sequel first.

i haven't heard any rumors about a CK3 though. considering how the PDS core titles (CK, Vicky, HOI, EU) work and how their development and life cycles can be put in specific generations (with this being the 4th gen), and the considerable downtime between generations 3 and 4 as recent precedent, it's at least likely that a CK3 would be released or at least announced before 2030 but after 2025.

Seeing as my post about new areas got quite some disagrees, what unplayable lands do you think will be made playable?

east asia. performance issues arguments aside, the 2.6 patch may just be the team work that makes the dream work. plus with mods like Tianxia we can potentially glean an idea of how CK2 can run with the entirety of the old world.

No idea but the wording seemed to strongly imply that it wouldn't be a map expansion. I for one support china but it's too early to tell.

Asia would be fine but you would need soo much land, basically doubling the map as it is now, the only reason i dont laugh at the idea anymore is the fact that plauges have made the game ohhhh so smoother, but even then with East Asia the game will lag as bad or worse then pre reaper due

I would like to see more of asia, you say lag, i have never experianced any lag at all in CK2? I have never played any pre release however.

it's kind of funky, but I'd expect to see China, SEA, and Japan added in, since we already go as far east as Mongolia. *shrugs* I would love to see the new world, but there would be SUCH limited interactions and without proper sea attrition mechanics it would get derpy fast.

I think America should stay in eu4. People complain about India having no connection to the rest of the world (I disagree) but the new world takes that to a whole new level. You get a few Scandinavian expeditions down into modern canada, and some colonies that die out before the end of the game. That is pretty much the only connection between the new world and the old in ck2s timeframe. Well, there was the massive Aztec invasion of Europe I guess, but the europeans wiped that from all the history books.

As for map extensions, I'm honestly okay with the map we have for ck2. Clauswitz is getting old, and I don't think it can handle the rest of the old world.

For ck3, I'd be very happy if they included the Swahili coast, a much larger section of west africa, maybe tuareg nomads in the sahara with similar mechanics to the steppe hordes? It'd be nice to also have East and Southeast Asia (but not Australia). Basically the whole Old world.

A more fleshed out Mali might be nice, tbh. And the African great lakes?

I just think that if we had china then the mongol invasion could happen more "organically" rather than "Welp, troops appeared at the edge of map, gg"

actually age means surprisingly very little when it comes to game engines. the original Havok engine debuted around the same time as the PS2 launch but it's current version is uhh... just a LITTLE bit more advanced. it's only things like fundamental changes requiring a new base built from scratch (the Europa engine wasn't capable of 3D modeling) or a proprietary engine (Bethesda and their Creation engine, a derivative of Gamebryo).

plus... dude? have you seen the Tianxia mod? it even just got updated for Reaper's Due. really, the only limit CK2 has is how much more streamlined it can get as the literal limitation of how large the map file can be and the 32-bit encoding.

CK2 is a so great game that it's quite hard to design something that could be substantially better from the start.
A lot of features that are somehow considered as "core part" of the game where added in the various expansion/dlc. All (or most) of them should be included to have a comparable product.
So I guess that we have to wait a lot for CK3 .
At the moment I'm having too much fun with CK2 to desire a new game...
