My guess is that the strat redeploy crash is just a symptom of the problem rather than the actual problem. When I first loaded AOD several years ago my game crashed every time upon loading and I found the cure to be by disabling the binkplay video crap at game start. Over the next couple of years I saw on the board here people describing the exact problem and I suggested they do what I do to fix it and it mainly worked. We were probably <1% of the poeple who had the problem. My machine ran every other HOI2 game flawlessly.

I had a state of the art machine 3+ years ago, Intel i7, 9800XT video 1gb, 8 gb ram etc.

Bottom line here is that the problem is not your machine or the game but rather the interaction of something about your machine and something about the game.

Since you have not described your machine specs one cannot even guess here.

For the heck of it though, disable that god damn binkplay crap!

The easy way to do this is to rename the avi folder avi_old so it will not fire.

i5-2500k cpu @3.30ghz
16GB
32 bit vista (i know, only uses 4 GB)
geforce 9800gtx

aod 1.7 works fine

Did you disable the AVI just for the heck of it? I spent hours upon hours on my crash and that was the fix -- for me a a number of other people.
