I have been playing HOI for a while now, using the 1.05c patch. I have been enjoying the game but it is getting very frustrating - the CTD problem that almost drove me away from EU2 has stopped me from ever completing a full game of HOI.

I have a specific game that I cannot get past April 2nd, 1942. I have tried HOIFIX, I have tried manually fixing errors in the save game file, and I have tried going back to earlier save games and trying again. Time and again it just crashes. What can I do to get some help?

Well posting and asking for help was the first thing to do! :)

Now I need your system specs.

Also rename your AVI folder to AVI_Back.

You can load the game as an out of the way nation and try to play past that date, then save and restart as your original nation.
Not an ideal solution but it may get you around the current problem.

I tried it as a couple different countries, but it actually crashes faster that way - it usually dumps me to the desktop at 11 am on April 2nd, instead it had a CTD at 5 am with the other countries. I took no actions, just switched countries and ran the time down.

If a crash is so predicatable, if must be linked with something in the game that happens on or around april 2, 1942.

Since there are no events specifically tied to this year (let alone this particular date), it must be something else.

Does research complete on this date (because it maybe a bugged, hardly ever researched project), or perhaps a unit be completed (with weird stats, that cause the game engine to crash) on this date? Or is there some major action that triggers a bugged event? (Check the history. What is the last entry before the game actually crashes)

What version of HoI are you using? From which publisher? (because it maybe related to a poorly translated text. We had those a while back in EU2)
