CTD issue (not loading screen), Republics involved?

Alright, so basically I've been trying to play as a Lysene Republic ruler, unfortunately for some reason the games would always crash at the start of the new year, this I resolved by making sure the defines.lua file got saved in ANSI.

Now however, my game crashes, and when I try to load up the auto save, it gives me a message saying that due to becoming a republic, my game ended.

I have the republic DLC, I have all but the Sons of Abraham.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Is your checksum correct?
Is your capital coastal/on a major river?
