Hey, I'm a long time player of HOI, had to quit and wait for better patches. Well, I've waited for a while and saw that the 1.06 came out! Awesome!

Anyway, I installed the game on my laptop (installed fine), but when I go to run it I get the advertisement stuff at the start and when I press ESCAPE to skip it, it crashes to the desk top. The game is still playing in a minimized form because I hear the music.

I tried screwing around with the resolutions and all and nothing. I once just kept on clicking on the tab out of sheer frustrations and the game somehow loaded up, but everything was ugly. The sprites looked squished and the menus had bars going through and everything just looked weird. Here's my system information, just in case the problem might be there:

Dell Inspiron (laptop)
2.79 GHz
512 MB of ram
Pentium 4
GeForce 4 video card (I believe, not too computer literate here!)

Anyway, I'm not lacking memory and I tried to match the resolutions, lowered the graphics to 16 bit.. Everything, all it does is crash to the desktop. It's rather.. err... well, disheartening. Appreciate and suggestions. Thanks!

Hello!
You confirmed that you did item 2 in this list, but could you confirm you did the others please?
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

Also, having a brand new system, may require some patching&tweaking anyway, but lets come back to that when the first things are covered.

You should solve your problem by renaming the AVI folder to AVI_back.

and I wish people would stop quoteing me without atribution. ;)

Hmp, sorry didn't though about it, was in a hurry and vaguely believed that it was common forum gods. If not in a sticky, then a kind of 'mobile sticky'.
As you and some others here know, that text is used a number of times as standard answer and sometimes also referred to as the standard answer. Heck, I think you have said so yourself... :D

Anyway, It is a good thing that people get prompt help here. If it happens you created a good starting generic formula once upon a time, so much the better.

It is not a big deal for you since you C&Ped it from someone who had posted it unattributed, They have already apologized.
And of course I have used it, It is not unatributed when I quote myself. ;)

If you C&P someone’s words you should attribute it. Especially if it is providing a solution to a problem or teaching a point like a FAQ. Basic High school ethics really, can't get through University without learning it.

As I say I know you did not plagarize on purpose, I just like to put these litle reminders out there so it does not get out of hand.
