CTD on load once castile forms spain

Hi, this is my first post. :D

I seem to have a problem, and I haven't seen any other posts that address it. I have played one GC as Iroquis and the American campaign without to much problem (a few random CTD on reload, but rare enough that I can deal with it). However in my current GC I am playing Castile. Everything seems normal until I form Spain. The gameplay continues fine, but when I try to load a saved game from after Spain's formation it CTD (If it matters is CTD seems to be at the very end of the loading screen).

I am playing with game from the "conquest 6 pack" so I know that you "don't support it". But your sticky mentioned that you might try to help anyway.

When I first bought the game, someone emailed me a patch, but I don't know what it was and have no idea which version I am playing.

I am on a Dell pentium III with 128 MB of ram. I am running windows ME (which sucks btw).

Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it.

Well I have never heard of this one, in fact it is reccomended that you save and reload after a tag change like that.

Are you attempting to load from within the game or are you exiting and then loading from the main screen?

Also that menu screen or the intro screen should have the version number in the corner, Top Right IIRC.

Loading from within the game. I have a couple saved games from after the switch, and I have tried loading them both as Castile and as Spain after the switch with the same result.

I just tried from the main menu, and I can load other countries like Nippon or Aragon. However, I can't attempt Spain from the main menu because it's shield is darkened, and I can't select it.

Wierd.
 
What version do you have, Publisher and ver #?

Okay load the savegame as another nation, save the game, exit the whole program, reboot, now start the game and load the new save as Spain.

I just tried, but all the shields are still dark and won't let me select except the last one on the right side. I can change the right one, but not to anything that is already showing. :confused: Also, I loaded a game as Castile previous to the switch, and waited until I became spain, then tried to load and it still CTD. :(

I'm not sure where to find the info you asked for earlier. Like I said the game came in the "conquest 6 pack" and that was put out by StrategyFirst. In the top left corner of the main menu it says EU2v1.07. And when I first got it about 1 year ago, it wouldn't start, and a support guy emailed me a patch to make it work with windows ME. Thats all I know.

Again thanks so much for your help. I really enjoy this game when it works right, and appreciate you taking the time to give advice.
 
It does not have to be a major that you switch to any nation will do.
 
Still not working.

I guess I'll just have to live with nations that don't have tag changes. (silently sobs in the corner for a few hours before wiping his eyes and starting a new game as Venice or Delhi).

I believe it is still possible. But you have to go into the new save (the one you made when you had played as another nation than SPA) and edit it at a few places.

One place is very early when all the "majors" (i.e. selectable nations) are listed, some 8-10 lines per major. There you will find one item for the nation you just played and with the name of that nation and with your own name on the computer. Now if you change the name of the nation into SPA on that item where your name is, then you have fixed that "place".

I cannot remember if there was any more places you have to edit. I have a vague notion there may be more places towards the end of the file.

If no one else posts a good suggestion then perhaps this was sufficient. Try it. Click on the save in the START screen and hopefully either the game will highlight the SPA shield (i.e. just press START and play) or you will be able to choose that shield.
 
I guess I should have asked which part is still not working.

I thought he was able to load as Spain just that it crashed again.
