Short summary of your issue

I can start the game without issues, but my game crashes to desktop whenever I try loading the map when starting as a new country. This only began happening in the 1.5 update and was also happening during the 1.5 beta. I can switch to the immediate prior version (Irish Breakfast) and it works just fine, however.

Game Version

1.5.7

What OS are you playing on?

macOS Monterey

Do you have mods enabled?

No

Have you tried verifying your game files?

Yes

How much "pain" is this causing you?

10

Please explain the issue you experienced in the most condensed way possible

The game starts up without issue, but whenever I move to the map mode it crashes.

Please explain how to reproduce the issue

Starting as a new country or trying to load the map to select a country to play as.

Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?

I did a clean reinstall during the 1.5 open beta (when I first encountered this issue) and continue having the same issue. I can switch to the previous version of the game and it works just fine so it seems to be related to the 1.5 update.

My System and Hardware

8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
2.7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
Intel Iris Graphics 6100

Most likely this is due to the game no longer supporting openGL in Mac or Linux, only Vulkan. Between your old MacOS version and your Intel video system, I think that's the cause here - this game has never been supported on Mac Intel video hardware.

You can try updating MacOS as far as possible, which will get you later Intel video drivers. If that doesn't help, I'm afraid you'll have to stay on the 1.4.x patches until you can get access to supported hardware.

Sorry about that!
