CTD with Spanish v1.04 when clicking on a CoT

When I click on a CoT to send merchants, the game usually crashes to desktop. The CTD seems to happen randomly (i.e.: it does not always happen).

I am playing the Spanish v1.04 and I’d like to know if anyone else is having a similar problem and if this is one of the problems addressed with the v1.05 patch.
 
Unfortunately this crash is probably caused by a translation error.
It certainly doesnt happen in the original English Language version.
I would suggest that you voice your concerns to the publisher responsible for the translation - Ubisoft.
 
I might have solved the problem by changing the graphic card driver (I have an ATI Rage PRO) for a previous version. At least, it seems to be working fine for the moment, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed just in case.

However, the biggest bug for us –the Spanish players- is called Ubi Soft Spain: not only have they delayed the release of the game until now, but also they have just noticed that many of the released copies are faulty.

I talked too soon: unfortunately, the problem remains. I have been trying to isolate the action that triggers the CTD. It seems to happen when I am at the commerce screen and I move the cursor to the left, over the information window.

Judging from the poor distribution that Ubi has done with the game, I hardly hope to get any effort from them in solving the problem (believe me, technical services in Spain will say you nothing more creative than “You should update your drivers”).

I am starting to wonder if I should have bought the Strategy First edition. Although it is more expensive to import the game, at least I would get fewer bugs, a better patch support and the map (not to mention some translation mistakes, with texts that sometimes don’t fit the assigned space).

Well, I am sad to see that my first posts in this forum have to be so negative, especially when I am starting to like EU2.
 
A solution to this bug has been found by Nemiere (not sure if he will adopt this same nick when joining Paradox forums).


It's another syntax error in text.csv, like the italian ones...I wonder if Ubi has done any playtesting with these international releases (Italy was also under the domain of Ubi?)


The spanish release has been not only the most delayed, but a great number of CDs had been to be removed from the shelves because of "faulty CDs"

At this moment, Spain loves Ubisoft like never before...:(


I hope Nemiere will post the solution to this new, version especific CTD soon

2) Can you tell him to join the board, or at least copy his post over here?
 
He's already joining, but it seems that he was unable to get instant access to the forums (it's not the first time I've heard that)


If he has not posted here tomorrow (today?) I will copy the wrong code and his correction (it's very late here, ya know :))

Instant access doesnt happen now. We register people by hand as it easier to screen them.
If he is having problems registering then PM me his Nick and I will have a look- - although there is no one in the queue at the moment. Tell him he *must* use a valid e-mail addy to register or it will fail.
 
How to get rid of this Spanish v1.04 CTD:

1. Make a backup of original "text.csv" file.

2. Edit "text.csv" with Wordpad.

3. Look for the line starting with COTIWSHIELD_D

4. Change that line. Where the line reads:

COTIWSHIELD_D;%d mercader(es) de %s produce(n) %.2f$ anualmente.;@;@;@;@;@;@;@;@;@;X

it should be:

COTIWSHIELD_D;%s tiene %d mercader(es) que produce(n) %.2f$ anualmente.;@;@;@;@;@;@;@;@;@;X

5. Save the file.


The important thing is really to swap the order of "%d" and "%s" into the line, and remake the wording so it sounds in Spanish.
 
Hope it is on time to get in the v1.05 Spanish patch! After the fix, I am not getting that annoying crashes anymore.

I was wondering if we could also post here other translation problems that we spot in the Spanish version, so they can be fixed in future patches.

For example, the historical information of Sweden appears truncated. It says "Aunque ningún bando consiguió vencer claramente al otro, Suecia se consolidó como una de las potencias más fuertes en el c..." The word beginning with "c" and the rest following are missing. It is the line SWE_1617_HISTDESC in the text.csv file.

Also, the names of the different sea regions were left in English.

And in the ledger, sometimes the texts are too long, so probably abbreviations should be used in order to make them appear correctly. In p. 11 (income) and, especially, p. 12 (expenditure) the text labels overlap. And in p. 32 (non-colonial territory), the province name wraps around the screen.

Despite the mistakes, the overall quality of the translation seems to be fairly good. Hope there are no more critical issues like the one fixed by nemiere.

Well, I'd like to hear the opinion of Chema and other Spanish players about it. Besides, and as I said before, I guess that the most important issue is already fixed and I don't know if we should expect or not more problems like this (the other issues I have mentioned are not critical as you can see).

"To start a thread just for the Spanish Translation faults" has sounded a bit negative to me (even though Spaniards are quite angry with Ubi). My intention is to be as constructive as possible and point out things that may be fixed or enhanced in future patches, assuming that we might help Paradox with that. Again, I do not know if more translation mistakes will appear and how many.

I think that it would be very constructive to start a separate thread related to the spanish translation faults. I don't want to seem pesimistic, but I'm affraid that there should be some more translation faults. Even if there are no more errors like the one above, there would be a lot of small problems due to the extremely long grammar construction of the spanish language

(like the ones Harvey is depicting that appear in the Ledger)


Btw, I have not yet my spanish version of EU2; all the local EBs nearby were affected by the last-hour-mess from Ubi-España, and all EU2 copies were retired. Definitely, I love Ubi-España

Eeerrr... Uhm... Maybe 'cause you're probably among the most experienced EU2 players who write both in the Meristation forum and this one? :rolleyes:

Anyway, I mentioned you and other Spanish players, so I hope they get also get involved in polishing the Spanish EU version, assuming that the majority of us consider this to be an interesting proposal and not a kind of a pointless whining about Ubi's faults.

And, of course, I'd like ask for their opinion and their permission to the people at Paradox, as long as we are talking about suggesting alterations to their program.

<vbg> So, I am not the only programmer that uses C(++) printf formatters to create database driven output.

Indeed, when you use this, and mix up the order of the %s and %d, you can create very nasty crashes. The %d should be fine, though. It will print out the starting address of your string in memory, when switched with a %s :D

It's the %s that will interpret the number as a starting address of a string. This usually creates an access violation, in EU2 resulting in a CtD, I presume

Well, it is not a bug, but it is another example of how much care showed Ubi Soft in the Spanish release: the executable file has no copy protection at all, making it possible to play without the CD if you install the music files.

I guess this is probably the reason why Ubi retired most of the released copies adducing that the CD could not be read.

I hope that those of us who bought this “special version” don’t have problems when the copy protection scheme is (presumably) back in the forthcoming v1.05 Spanish patch
 
Another minor translation bug in the Spanish version: the line POR_DESC in the text.csv is truncated. It ends with "Otros ex", so it should be "Otros exploradores… (whatever)"

If anyone can post the full content (in English) of this line and the other one about Sweden that has the same problem, I could suggest a translation.

Should I start a thread in the Bug Reporting forum for all this translation mistakes or using this thread would be OK?
 
Yes, that trouble with the copy protection in the future 1.05 spanish patch will have the blame of a slepless night for me. Some of us, (I know at least eight or ten), have been able to buy a copy of Eu2 before Ubi removed of the released unprotected copies. I hope that now, the new 1.05 patch will not make aour copies unable to run. I dont keep the buying ticket any longer.

BTW: Harvey, keep up the good work here mate, you and Chema are making an excellent effort for the spanish Eu2 gamers comunity.
