Current system of selecting beneficiaries very strongly promotes women, even using historically accurate gender laws. In two crusades in two separate games, every single title - both counties and the main kingdom title, went to women. I, myself, was only able to select women as my benficiaries in both cases. My suggestion is, make it prefer men, perhaps spread county titles more so they go to those who contributed less.

What even is the system? I haven't been able to figure out by what logic the possible beneficiaries are selected. I almost suspect there's a misplaced NOT somewhere and those characters were supposed to be excluded instead of the only choice.

Is this because beneficiaries can't be heirs to any titles and partition is so widespread in the game that most male characters in major dynasties are heirs to some title?

That sounds right. I think you should be forced to make a knight the beneficiary if there’s absolutely no one.

They should, alternatively, allow you to make your beneficiary give up their title at home in exchange for the Crusader Kingdom.
Or allow more instances of the disgusting leeches that you are obligated to call "Family" to procreate.
