Issue: the cursor does not appear in my set up windows; i.e. the windows to select what scenario you want to play, pick a country, options, etc., but it does appear when I actually start a scenario and appears to work fine once the game is going. This happens in vanilla HoI 2, & Doomsday and Arma (patched up to their official latest patches) with no mods or anything.

While I cannot see the cursor I can see what it is highlighting which lets me, after some effort, pick a scenario and country but I am unable to change any of the options (difficulty, takeover, etc) which is very annoying.

On my old rig everything worked fine, and I have a new fast gaming computer (with Vista) that runs HoI 3 fine, but when I tried to install and play HoI 2 (until the HoI 3 issues are resolved by Paradox) I am getting the issue I described above.

I used the google search technique but couldn't find any similar threads to my issue.

I am running a:

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition
Intel Core 2 Quad 9400 (2.66GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
Memory 4GB (I have plenty of memory left to run games)
Memory speed PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM memory
Graphics card Dual SLI Nvidia GeForce 9800S MXM 3.0 graphics cards with 512MB DDR3 memory on each card

Any suggestions for resolving my issue?

If your mouse uses installed drivers, it may be worthwhile checking to see if there is a later version available.

I've seen this suggested for Vista cursor problems :

1-Right click the desktop shortcut for your game.

2-Select 'Properties'. Make sure you are in the 'Shotcut' tab.

3-Select the 'Target' field. It should look something like this: "C:\Program Files\games\Paradox Interactive\Armageddon\HOI2.exe"

4-Add -compatiblecursors 1 to the end of the target, so that it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\games\Paradox Interactive\Armageddon\HOI2.exe " -compatiblecursors 1

Thank you for the suggestion, sadly it didn't work.

I ended up just very slowly getting the settings I wanted before starting the game. Again, once in the game the cursor appeared normally. Very odd!

Unfortunately those didn't work either. I ended up enabling this function where I would press the Ctrl key and it would send out a radar ping of where the cursor was.

It didn't make it real easy to use but at least I was able to put the settings where I wanted them.

I blame Vista :p
