Do they work, and if so, how do they work? I know there's one for Italy (for the Lombards) but it's the only one I know of. When I tried to emulate this for England several patches ago I couldn't get it to work.

Once again, the commands page is very helpful. It explains the command set_coa. Looks like the usage is non-obvious (you need to have an existing title with your custom coa (an unused dummy title if necessary) as the right-hand argument), and last time I heard there were some issues with custom shields not retaining over different savefiles, but that might have been fixed in some patch later on. Only way to find out is to try
