On June 2 1944 the Allies prepared for a huge invasion of occupied France to force out the Germans. Many divisions were already in the English channel and more were being prepared.
The British and Canadian divisions began to load onto transports in Portsmouth docks...
The fleet then made its way to rendezvous with the others in the channel.
Meanwhile, the US embarked ships in Kent...
Which also went to meet the main fleet.
In the evening of June 2, the landing forces had been prepared.
Facing possibly the greatest fight of their lives, against fortified positions along the Atlantic Wall, the soldiers of the allied armies set off from the fleet on landing craft, headed for the beaches of Normandy...
