Welcome to DAIM - the more Determined AI Modification!

Unsatisfied with the performance of the standard HoI 2 AI, Spocky and I decided to give the AI a hand. We wanted to make the AI act more like a human would play the game - focusing on the important parts of production and research, vigorously trying to get things done, while sometimes being on the edge to "gamey" tactics. But why should Japan stop its advance in China when they've got the power to continue? Or why build the Graf Zeppelin as Germany when tanks are badly needed? The player wouldn't do so, except for fun or to make the game harder, and the AI shouldn't be told to do it either in our opinion.

We overhauled the AI sets for Germany, Japan, Russia, Italy, the UK, USA and Nationalist China and might do some more. With your feedback and suggestions we'll try to improve the existing sets as well as adding sets for other nations. It was awfully quiet in our threads until now, but nevertheless almost 1000 downloads in two weeks speak for themselves. We'd be happy to get more feedback in the future! :)

Feel free to post your thoughts here or in one of the country specific threads:
Download link:
Download the installer and execute it, it will then install the DAIM files into your HoI 2 folder. An uninstall function is included and an additional backup of the AI files is possible as well. At the beginning of the 1936, 1938 and 1939 scenarios, notification events will tell you when DAIM AIs are active.
Enjoy DAIM - and feel free to apply higher difficulty settings at the same time!

Thanks to a helpful moderator we were moved and got a sticky! :)
Soon we'll know how it feels: "Nobody reads your thread when it is stickyfied." - Murphy's law on forum stickies.

I'd like to use the opportunity to promote "SMEP", my Small Enhancement Package. It solves a few minor issues of the game, and I plan to do an update within a few days containing a fix for "Bases for Destroyers", "Liberation of France", an event for war between the Allies and Vichy France and one for a decent German Afrikakorps when Germany is AI controlled. It is fully compatible with DAIM.
Original thread with full information can be found here, direct download link is here.

Thanks for a great mod

I must express my appreciation as the preformance of DAIM Japan and Germany is impressive. I would done so earlier, but I wanted to try it before. I would recommend to any Allied player to download this enhancement (at least until 1.2 comes out) as the game seems far more interesting after that.

I have also small question. I have a game in progress as UK with Germany and Japan DAIM installed. Can I upgrade to DAIM big pack while in progress or should I wait for a new game?

Fix for DAIM Bigpack, 1939 scenario

Users of the DAIM Bigpack, please overwrite the /scenarios/1939.eug with the file provided here.

There was a problem with the German AI in the 1939 scenario, it was overwritten by an event not slept fast enough and lost interest in Belgium and the Netherlands. This problem is solved now, the download links (daim_bigpack.zip, daim_framework.zip) have been changed accordingly.

Thanks for your compliments, we're happy about every "satisfied customer". :)

As for upgrading to the DAIM Bigpack, you should wait for a new game. Unfortunately upgrading on-the-fly won't work properly, but you're not missing out on that much: the AIs for Germany and Japan are still the same, playing with the standard Soviet AI will only make it harder for you, and Italy usually isn't gamebreaker no. 1 anyway. ;)

DAIM perspective

We'll be updating the DAIM Bigpack early next week. The update will feature new AI sets for the United Kingdom (including the Commonwealth majors), the United States and Nationalist China, thus completing the more Determined AI Modification for the majors (we're not planning on updating France). The update will also contain tweaks for Japan, the Soviet Union and Germany.
After that we'll focus on improving the existing AIs as well as taking a look at some selected minors, perhaps. When 1.2 comes out, we'll see if there's still room and/or need for the DAIM mod. All comments and hints are welcome!

This may sound like a stickler but I noticed you removed my name in the AI files. It appears you are changing or adding about 10 or so lines in each of them. I would appreciate you leave my name in the original AI files as it equates to about 1 years full of work which is still going on.

Actually we didn't change just "10 or so" lines in the files, we changed a lot more.
We clearly reference to the standard AI files of 1.1 in every file we changed. We also added new files that can't be traced directly to one parent, and we didn't realise in advance that all files we were going to change were made exclusively by you, that's why we chose this description. If that's what you want, please accept my excuses and we'll add your name in the files again.

Oh some of this ten ( or hundred ) lines altered had beeen tested over 14 and more days. So we had a lot of work on our own.I hope you appreciate that, too .

And we thought that everybody knows that
based on the original files
meaned
based by Lothos

This will be changed in the next release of the Bigpack.

Spocky

No, not everybody knows that. Especially the guys who *will* come and start hacking on top of your altered files.

For the purposes of tracking things the generally accepted procedure when modding default game files (in this case the AI files produced by Lothos, who PE had do the files) is to leave the original name in there and then add "revised by Spocky" or "revised by G'Kar". It solves a lot of problems, both in tracking the origin of files and also giving due credit, in this case for the time Lothos spent on his end of things.

That said, I am anxious to give these files a whirl. You have created a buzz with them.

Now please open up your own site or something, even if only a little free forum. I'd like to be able (and I am sure an increasing amount of others would, too) to track the progress down independant of this accursed, unstable forum. And have a direct point-of-reference site to go to when Denmark gets the bomb or something... lol

500 downloads so far!

We have the first jubilee to celebrate: During the last hour we crossed the mark of 500 DAIM Bigpack downloads since the last update one week ago! (our own downloads for trials are excluded, of course ;))
We wish to thank all users for your confidence and hope you enjoy your HoI even more than before. Have fun with it over the weekend, and stay tuned for our update next week!

Thank you for all your work G Kar and Spocky.
You've made the game playable :)

I'm in my first German '36 GC late 1940 and the only anomaly I've experienced is that once I influenced Hung, Rom, Italy and Nat Spain to +200 they still refuse to join my Alliance.

But then they ask to join me 2 days later so it worked out in the end. Kinda strange though. :D

Wow, nice stuff, I gotta check this out. Although from my very limited experience, the AIs most desperate in need are those of the US and UK. They seem to be very inactive in the European theatre.

Truthfully it is generally easier to make land-based attacker AI systems than what I would call 'reactionary' (UK, USA) systems. Additionally, the UK and USA are naval-oriented powers so that brings up its own issues.

Should I comment about the German AI here or in the German thread?

If its only about special german AI issues the then please use the germanythreat.

Spocky

Actually, I realize now that it isn't an AI issue but rather a SMEP issue. Where shall I SMEP?

smepsmepsmepsmep

you gotta love that acronym

Thank You Gentlemen!

I would like to say Thank You Gentlemen for your devotion to MOD of the game and fixing the bugs faster than Paradox. I all ready fixed the Washington factory bug myself from reading the form. I'll try them out once I finished testing Polish Human player starting in 1936. Since there is a bug in the UK player with resource depots. :)

Thanks Again Gentlemen,
SkyElf
