Having played this excellent game non stop I can confirm I am totally addicted as I try out all the different countries. Having beaten the AI all over the place, I read about all the mods to see if the AI can be improved. So for a better challenge I download DAIM.

After Daim was successfully patched, DAIM was installed for every country except the USSR as the DAIM forum said that the Daim programme for Germany could not effectivley taken on the USSR Daim programme. Anyhow giggling like a small school girl I load up the game with the intention of playing the USA from 36 onwards dreaming that the AXIS might actually be a challenge and thus it would be worth playing the USA.

So far im around April 39 and nicely set for war in late 40 with japan. I thought while spending silly amounts of time watching the tedious US tech progression while smoking far to many cigarettes I thought I would look at the national comparisons and look at the map to see how the DAIM improvements on the AI were working out.

To my utter disbelief all the chinese factions have allied and have totally kicked the shit out of Japan, which may I add is just holding onto korea, its ally Manchuko is totally wrecked and the chinese have 109 infantry divsions and the japs have 29 with 27 garrisons lol. Needless to say after 3 + hours of researching for a pacific war with japan I was pissed. So I thought ok ill turn things around and take germany/italy out with the allies.

But unforunatley the damn lager swilling sausage munching peace loving National Socialists decide to fucking back down in the Danzig event!! I mean WTF is going on are the axis becoming an alliance of hippies ??

Any suggestions on how to turn this game into somthing worthing playing now?

Good Call! For the best games are often the ones where you are playing against your-self!! :D :rofl:

I do the same thing for a strong Japan give them some resources, money and most important manpower this way they can over run China and India.

For Italy same but build them some factories so they can have 5 tech slots this way they over ran North Africa and Iraq

As for Germany type in the event that give them Austria , Chezslovokia and France in '36 the way I play this gives them 300 IC in 36 very hard to beat

Well, I was equivocating about downloading DAIM, but in light of Denzil's experience, I think I will hang in for a few more days until 1.3 arrives. This, by the way, is not a knock on the AI aspects of DAIM (nor, for that matter of the vanilla version either).

Simply put, the AI is fine---it simply has no preconceived notions about "historical results". So, in certain circumstances, the Chinese warlords will unite and kick the stuffing out of the Japanese. The diplomacy model within the game is allowing for all sorts of "what if" things to happen. To some extent, these can be moderated by hard-wired political events, but as can be seen, anything can happen.

I'm just learning the interface, and am doing so by playing Argentina. I am doing some very ahistorical things, but realistic within the scope of this game. And, the AI is doing all sorts of interesting things, both in my region as well as half a world away. Some of the things are "realistic" (read: historical) and many of the things are NOT.

Now, knowing all of this, I am still reasonably confident that sooner or later, Paradox will get the AI up to a level where I can satisfy my desire to play a game with historical parameters that either delivers a "historical" result, or at least a result which I can say is "realistic".

@DENZIL
Sounds like you got unlucky with (a) Japan loosing against China (is the exception in our experience) and (b) Germany taking the wrong choice in an important event. By the way - the AI chances for the events are the same as in unmodded HoI, it simply happens once in a while and I usually reload when it happens for the AI.
You didn't mention which difficulty settings you were using, I guess it was normal/something, for the US I'd strongly recommend to use hard or very hard - it's a cakewalk with or without DAIM otherwise.

@happycat
I understand your reasoning and yes, historicity and realism are difficult questions that erupt every once in a while on the forums. You said you're still learning the game, so I guess you probably have other problems than to decide whether or not to try DAIM right now. But I suppose that "a few days" might not be enough for 1.3 to show up. In the meantime, enjoy HoI 2 and play it the way you like it. ;)

Is there a way to remove the Soviet DAIM individually (I installed the mega install, whatever it is called) or will I be forced to uninstall and install everything else manually?

Every game I play, the Soviets take over the world.

Sorry for that... :D
The easiest way is to uninstall the whole package (DAIM-uninstall.exe) and to reinstall without the specific AI.

Now that I think about it, would a DAIM Germany beat a vanilla USSR 100% of the time? I don't want to replace a mega Soviet empire with a mega Germany empire.

Not 100% but at least 95% ;)

Crap.

Okay, so what is the best solution here? Is it possible to have any form of DAIM installed and not have USSR always lose, or the Germans always lose?

I was playing as Japan when the Soviets decided to steamroll me after they conquered Germany. I guess this means I have to forget about the USA, and join the axis and triple team the Russians?

The best solution maybe another scenario. DAIM Germany against DAIM Ussr may be a 60:40 .
That can be the solution for your Problem

Heh funny stuff mate. What I always do in the sense of the Danzig event I always save just before the Pact then if it screwes up like in your case I just reload it, and it better worik. Otherwise just fiddle with the file of the save and make it so your at war or whatever.
