Premise:

This game takes place in the seclude and horrible fortress of an ancient order with only evil intent. Calling it a game is both misleading and completely true. It is played for the highest steaks of death and power and there is no escape from it. This order for all its malice to the world is just as bitterly divided against its self. It is divided into secret faction which are locked in a never-ending power struggle, and it also must deal with the annoyance of infiltration by so-called good doers. The game is set up by and played for the amusement of the all-powerful and all-seeing Game Master.

Each player in this game starts in a state of ignorance about all others. They know their friends no more than their enemies.

Each night the players assemble to vote, obstetrically for rooting out the infiltrators but all too evidently to advance the goals of their own secret masters. Meanwhile any number of dealings are occurring behind the scenes. When the night ends the player who has attracted the most votes is sacrificed, if more than one are tied all are sacrificed.

Each night ends at 14:00 CST/20:00 UTC, the new night begins once the GM has updated the state of play.

No player may state their role or claim a false role publicity, for to admit having an allegiance to anyone other than the order itself is punished by imminent sacrifice. The GM will determine when such an admission has taken place.

Use of private messages is allowed and encouraged, as are lies and deceit. Forging PMs is allowed. Screenshots of PMs are not. Discussion of PM ID numbers are not allowed.

Factions:

Most players are divided into factions. The players in each faction are ranked randomly by the GM, the first player in that order starts the game as the faction Priest and all others start as Cultists, who will be informed of their rank at the start of the game. Should the Priest die the second person is elevated from Cultist to Priest and so on until the faction dies out completely. A Priest may scan one other player each day. This scan will reveal if the target is a cultist of the same faction as the priest, a cultist in an unknown other faction, or any non-cultist roles as such, but not the exact type.

Each faction’s goal is to the win the game by reaching parity with the rest. (The Xth faction wins when x/n = .5 where n is the number of living players.) For parity to be recognized the current priest of the faction must be able to name enough of his brethren to achieve parity. To do so each night the priest may submit to the GM a list of players they believe to be members of this faction, the GM will recognize parity if and only if the list correctly identifies a sufficient number of the Priest’s faction and does not list any players who are not actually members of the Priest’s faction.

A special case is the Cultist with two Masters- These people have faith in two Secret Masters, being in all other respects like normal Cultists. They count for both of their factions in matters of parity and show up as a normal cultist of the corresponding faction to their Priests. They cannot become Priests and if one of their masters no longer has a Priest, they lose that allegiance the become regular cultists at the end of the chain to be the remaining faction's Priest.

Non-Faction Roles:

Exorcist and Converts- The Exorcist may each day attempt to turn another player into a Convert, their follower. This has 50% chance of success with Cultists and with all other roles it will automatically fail. The Exorcist will not know whether they are successful. If the attempt is successful, the ex-Cultist will be informed they are now a Convert but will not know who the Exorcist is. If the attempt fails, the target will not know that it ever took place. Exorcist and Converts win if they manage to gain parity with the rest (The Exorcist need not name their converts). If Exorcist is killed, the first convert replaces them and so on. There will be no Converts at the start of the game.

Agent of the Bishop- May each day freely choose one other player to be hanged by the Inquisition and may order to have no one killed. Wins if the bishop has hanged one priest of each surviving faction. If there are no orders from the Agent, like when they are dead, then the bishop hangs randomly with a 50% chance of no one being killed and otherwise a target of the Inquisition being chosen randomly.

Niceties:

§1. - You sign up to the game by requesting so in a post in this thread. Players can and will be disqualified from signing up at GM discretion.

§2. - No new players will be admitted after the game has started, except to substitute for another player.

§3. – Voting must be done in the following way. Write "VOTE" and the person you are voting for in bold text. If you wish to un-vote someone, write "UNVOTE" and their name in bold text. Votes should be oversized or clear of other text to ensure they are not missed by the GM. In case of re-voting without un-voting the original vote will be the counted vote. Do not edit votes after posting them. If you make a mistake, like not bolding, unvote and revote in a new post. Invalid votes (Voting for Game Moderator/Ghosts) will not be accepted, and votes must be bolded to count.

§4. - Failure to vote will lead to substitution at the discretion of the GM.

§5. - You may at any time be substituted out by requesting so in the thread.

§6. – A dead players may never sub back into the game.

§7. - The player(s) with the plurality of votes at deadline are considered dead. They will not reveal any inside information after the deadline. The presumed dead player(s) should post in colored text.

§8. - Orders and votes submitted after deadline are ignored.

§9. - Spectators and ghosts may comment, but never suggest a course of action, reveal any new information, including vote counts. When ghost/spectator post, please use a non-white color.

§10. - A subbed player is considered a ghost when the GM declares them to be subbed and must obey all relevant rules of that status.

§11. - A subbed player may pass on relevant information to his sub at the distraction and direction of the GM, and likewise a sub may request information from the previous player. Any unauthorized contact between the sub and subbed players is not allowed.

§12. - Alliances and Feuds which aren't based on your characters or roles in the game between players are forbidden. Alliances and Feuds which continue from one game to another undermine the whole idea of the game.

§13. – The Game Master has the last word on all matters. If the Game Moderator makes a mistake (e.g. with the vote count, hunt/scan orders) and if critical information has been revealed, the mistake will be kept.

§14. - Always trust the GM.

§15. - Trust no one. Especially not the GM.

I'm gonna have to reread the rules because boy is that a terrible color, but might as well.

In.

I assume that should be "does not list"?

Are there glorious TIEs in this game?

In any case IN.
Correct, I always forget negation after midnight.

And yes ties are acceptable. This game is played in blood.

Hi, I played bnoids werewolf back in 2010 I was wondering if these forums are similar to that game. Also IN

No idea what bnoids werewolf is, but we have a Werewolf light that's currently on you can read through in this same subforum, and a link to the current big game that's on in my signature. Sign ups are closed for both but there'll probably be a new big werewolf game up within a week.
